{"id":90000,"date":"2019-03-22T16:45:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-22T16:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/nintendos_nindie_manager_hopes_cadence_of_hyrule_will_start_an_indie_collab_trend"},"modified":"2019-03-22T16:45:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-22T16:45:00","slug":"nintendos-nindie-manager-hopes-cadence-of-hyrule-will-start-an-indie-collab-trend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/03\/22\/nintendos-nindie-manager-hopes-cadence-of-hyrule-will-start-an-indie-collab-trend\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo&#8217;s Nindie Manager Hopes Cadence Of Hyrule Will Start An Indie Collab Trend"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"media_block\"><a href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/b78d15e6a22dd\/large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/b78d15e6a22dd\/small.jpg\" class=\"media_thumbnail\"><\/a><\/div>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Cadence\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/b78d15e6a22dd\/cadence.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/b78d15e6a22dd\/cadence.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Cadence\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>The Nindies Showcase <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/cadence_of_hyrule_is_what_you_get_when_you_cross_crypt_of_the_necrodancer_with_zelda\">reveal<\/a> of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/cadence_of_hyrule_crypt_of_the_necrodancer\">Cadence of Hyrule<\/a><\/strong> was an exciting one for many reasons, but one standout reason is the fact that Nintendo has happily entrusted a relatively small indie developer with the <strong>Zelda<\/strong> brand.<\/p>\n<p>This really isn&#8217;t a normal occurrence in Nintendo&#8217;s world; larger, well-established companies are sometimes welcomed in &#8211; such as Ubisoft with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/mario_plus_rabbids_kingdom_battle\">Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle<\/a><\/strong> or Capcom with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/gba\/legend_of_zelda_the_minish_cap\">Zelda: The Minish Cap<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; but smaller teams like <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/crypt_of_the_necrodancer\">Crypt of the NecroDancer<\/a><\/strong> dev, Brace Yourself Games, wouldn&#8217;t usually be presented with such an opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>From our point of view, this can only be great news &#8211; any game using the Zelda franchise and its characters will have had to go through Nintendo&#8217;s highest tier quality checks, and should therefore turn out to be a cracking final product &#8211; but this might well only be the start. What if Nintendo was to become more open with its franchises going forward, with more indie devs being given access to its historic library of (sometimes forgotten) franchises.<\/p>\n<p>Well, <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2019\/03\/21\/nintendo-wants-more-indies-playing-with-its-classic-characters\/\">VentureBeat<\/a> put this very question to Nintendo&#8217;s manager of publisher and developer relations (and <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Kirk_Scott?\">self-described<\/a> &#8216;Nindie guy&#8217;) Kirk Scott. Here&#8217;s what he said when asked about the possibility of more indie developers getting to use Nintendo\u2019s IP as a result of this project:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI hope so. I totally hope so. Yeah, this is great. I think this is validating for a lot of indies out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Don&#8217;t get us wrong &#8211; this isn&#8217;t confirmation that Nintendo has any other plans going forward &#8211; but having the head of developer relations being open to the idea really can&#8217;t be a bad thing.
