{"id":81281,"date":"2019-02-08T23:07:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-08T23:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/336300"},"modified":"2019-02-08T23:07:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-08T23:07:00","slug":"federal-court-orders-grand-theft-auto-v-cheat-creator-to-pay-150000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/02\/08\/federal-court-orders-grand-theft-auto-v-cheat-creator-to-pay-150000\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal court orders Grand Theft Auto V cheat creator to pay $150,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rockstar Games&#8217; parent company Take-Two Interactive\u00a0has won its\u00a0copyright infringement lawsuit against Jhonny Perez, the developer behind the <em>Grand Theft Auto V<\/em>\u00a0cheat &#8220;Elusive&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time Take-Two\u00a0has enacted\u00a0legal action against creators of\u00a0modding\u00a0tools that\u00a0give players an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/300242\/TakeTwo_shuts_down_a_trio_of_Grand_Theft_Auto_Online_cheat_providers.php\">unfair advantage<\/a>\u00a0or allowed\u00a0access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/328757\/GTA_V_cheaters_assets_frozen_following_Australian_court_ruling.php\">restricted features<\/a>\u00a0in the online mode of\u00a0<em>Grand Theft\u00a0<\/em><em>Auto V.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/torrentfreak.com\/gta-v-cheat-maker-has-to-pay-150000-in-copyright-damages\/\">TorrentFreak<\/a>, a federal court ordered Perez to pay Take-Two $150,000 in damages, and forbade him\u00a0from creating\u00a0or distributing any cheats based on or modifying Take-Two\u2019s games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company filed a case against Perez last August, accusing him of copyright infringement by creating and distributing Elusive (which could give players infinite in-game money, break NPC AI, etc.).
