{"id":78028,"date":"2019-01-25T17:14:00","date_gmt":"2019-01-25T17:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/335212"},"modified":"2019-01-25T17:14:00","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T17:14:00","slug":"nintendo-restarting-metroid-prime-4-development-with-series-originator-retro-studios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/01\/25\/nintendo-restarting-metroid-prime-4-development-with-series-originator-retro-studios\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo restarting Metroid Prime 4 development with series originator Retro Studios"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nintendo&#8217;s planning and development boss Shinya Takahashi announced Friday that the company is scrapping current development of <em>Metroid\u00a0Prime 4<\/em>\u00a0and restarting production with the\u00a0<em>Metroid Prime<\/em> series&#8217; original developer, Austin-based Nintendo subsidiary Retro Studios.<\/p>\n<p>A new game in the <em>Metroid Prime<\/em> series has been long-awaited by fans, and <em>Metroid Prime 4<\/em>&#8216;s development restart, and resulting delay, means that Nintendo will have a large <em>Metroid\u00a0Prime<\/em>-shaped hole in its release schedule for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Takahashi said in a video announcement that the lack of real progress on the game has been &#8220;regrettable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The current development process has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the <em>Metroid Prime<\/em> series,&#8221; Takahashi said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the current development status of the game is &#8220;very challenged,&#8221; and said the shift in development studios was a &#8220;difficult decision.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo has never confirmed the studio that was initially working on\u00a0<em>Metroid\u00a0Prime 4.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While Retro is taking the reins, <em>Metroid Prime 4 <\/em>producer Kensuke Tanabe will still be overseeing development. Takahashi made it clear that Retro will be restarting development on the game &#8220;from the beginning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Metroid Prime 4<\/em> was originally teased at E3 in June 2017, with no other development update since. Takahashi did not give a window for a release date, only saying that &#8220;development time will be extensive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Retro is responsible for three <em>Metroid Prime<\/em> games: <em>Metroid Prime<\/em>, <em>Metroid Prime 2: Echoes<\/em>, and <em>Metroid Prime 3: Corruption<\/em>, all of which were highly-rated, well-received 3D interpretations of the <em>Metroid <\/em>series.<\/p>\n<p>Retro&#8217;s latest game was <em>Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze<\/em> for Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nintendo&#8217;s planning and development boss Shinya Takahashi announced Friday that the company is scrapping current development of Metroid\u00a0Prime 4\u00a0and restarting production with the\u00a0Metroid Prime series&#8217; original developer, Austin-based Nintendo subsidiary Retro Studios.
