First up, the developer took to Twitter to reassure concerned fans who suspected the presence of loot boxes or microtransactions. As Image & Form says below, “it’s not that kind of game”. We can hear the collective “hoorah” from you lovely readers already.

Many of you have asked us if SteamWorld Quest will have micro transactions, loot boxes, booster packs or similar available for actual money. Short answer: No. Long answer: Don’t even worry about it! It’s not that kind of game <3 #SWQuest pic.twitter.com/EsUsG6NQqR— Image & Form Games (@ImageForm) January 23, 2019

The studio’s CEO, Brjánn Sigurgeirsson, has also recently sat down with the folks at Miketendo64 for a chat about the game. In the interview, Brjánn was asked about the potential of a physical release on Switch at launch. Here’s what he had to say:

“Probably not, we never do. That’s for practical reasons – we typically have to work on a game right up to the very last minutes before it HAS to be approved by Nintendo, and the lead times for physical production is always way, way longer than that. But we love physical editions just as much as the next guy. We’re likely to publish that at some point.”

He also confirms that the game started development almost immediately after the conclusion of SteamWorld Dig 2 (you can read the full interview here if you’re interested) before responding to a question which asked whether or not SteamWorld Quest will come to 3DS:

It’s a very good question, and the very good answer is that Quest won’t come to 3DS, unfortunately. We brought SW Dig 2 – and all the others before that, of course – to Nintendo 3DS. We were taken aback by how “well” the Switch had replaced the 3DS in terms of digital sales. It’s safe to say that although there are many 3DS owners, the ones that were tech-savvy enough to buy games from the eShop were also tech-savvy enough to switch to, well, Nintendo Switch. I track our sales meticulously, and you wouldn’t believe me if I told you by how manytimes the Switch versions of our games outsell the 3DS versions.

What did you think of SteamWorld Quest’s announcement yesterday?
