About $48.8 million of that was spent in 2017, putting the company\u2019s most recently reported monthly spending at about an average of\u00a0$4 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Revenue sources were split into\u00a0three main categories, including Kickstarter pledges, subscriptions, and &#8220;other&#8221; income from\u00a0partnerships with\u00a0hardware and software vendors. Based on the graph provided, it doesn&#8217;t seem like the company has been able to keep steady since 2014, after its initial explosion in revenue upon launch at the end of 2012 and into 2013.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"304\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cloud-imperium-games-spent-4m-a-month-in-2017-developing-star-citizen.png\" width=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is pretty interesting, as\u00a0<em>Star Citizen <\/em>is still in\u00a0development but has\u00a0already brought about $200 million in revenue for the company. Apparently, only one percent of that was due to traditional crowdfunding.<\/p>\n<p>The document goes on to point out that CIG\u00a0has been spending more than it\u2019s bringing in through its revenue streams over the past 3 years. The company\u00a0says that\u00a0$826,000 went to general and administrative (including\u00a0accounting and legal services), with the rest going into game development costs.<\/p>\n<p>The $46 million raised from a private investment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/333313\/Cloud_Imperium_raises_46M_from_private_investment.php\">last month<\/a> will reportedly be going toward\u00a0marketing and distribution efforts for <em>Squadron 42<\/em>, as well as development costs for <em>Star Citizen<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cloud Imperium Games,\u00a0the studio\u00a0behind\u00a0Star Citizen\u00a0and\u00a0Squadron 42,\u00a0released an eight-page accounting document a few weeks ago which shows how the company has spent its funds since\u00a02012.
