Our product updates include ways to help you communicate with every student through translation capabilities, improve reading and writing skills, and even support math development. With all these updates, we\u2019re sure you\u2019ll find at least one feature to help you kick off the new year right \u2013 read on for more information!<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Translate comes to the Immersive Reader<br \/><\/strong>Today\u2019s classrooms are extremely diverse and teachers have the incredible responsibility of reaching every student. It\u2019s no secret that communication is key, so as announced in <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/MadeByDyslexia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October<\/a>, we\u2019re including <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/translation\/2018\/11\/14\/nextgennmt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Translator<\/a> features in the Immersive Reader!<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve added the ability for anyone to translate a page, or single word into another language, in real-time all within Immersive Reader. This new capability will support Read Aloud, Syllables, Parts of Speech and Picture Dictionary.\u00a0 Translate in Immersive Reader will be available in: Word Online, OneNote Online, OneNote for Windows 10, OneNote iPad, OneNote Mac, Outlook Online, Teams and Flipgrid. Translate will begin rolling out worldwide this week and into next week and you\u2019ll find the list of supported languages <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Learning-Tools-to-improve-reading-and-writing-skills-735fc6ea-21eb-401a-9293-4a481ef7e482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload lia-media-image\" title=\"Immersive Reader Translate.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements.gif\" alt=\"Immersive Reader Translate.gif\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lia-media-image\" title=\"Immersive Reader Translate.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements.gif\" alt=\"Immersive Reader Translate.gif\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For an even more compelling scenario, try to take a picture of a book with <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Office-Lens-for-iOS-fbdca5f4-1b1b-4391-a931-dc1c2582397b\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office Lens<\/a> using iPhone, iPad, or Android.\u00a0 Then send the page to OneNote Windows 10 or Online.\u00a0 OneNote runs automatic Optical Character Recognition (OCR), so you can launch the Immersive Reader on the picture with text, and then use Translate to change the text to another language, and read aloud, or any of the other Immersive Reader features.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <strong>Immersive Re<\/strong>ader reading the Math Assistant\u2019s Step-by-Step solutions<br \/><\/strong>In OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote Online, we are now combining the power of step-by-step solving in Math Assistant and the reading aloud in Immersive Reader. Math pane now has an additional button that launches the Immersive Reader for math step-by-step solutions.<span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload lia-media-image\" title=\"Math.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements-1.gif\" alt=\"Math.gif\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lia-media-image\" title=\"Math.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements-1.gif\" alt=\"Math.gif\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Immersive Reader math in Word Online<br \/><\/strong>In addition to being able to read math equations from your page in <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/MadeByDyslexia\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote Online<\/a>, the Immersive Reader will now read math equations from your Word Online documents, both in view and edit modes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. The modern Immersive Reader interface comes to OneNote Desktop Learning Tools<br \/><\/strong>With many students and schools still using the original <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=51942\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OneNote 2016 Learning Tools addin<\/a>, we wanted to allows the students to get many of the benefits of the updated capabilities of the immersive reader.\u00a0 With the most recent update of the Learning Tools Addin to version 1.9, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=51942\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IT Administrators can now push out<\/a> the Immersive Reader app from the Microsoft tore that interacts with the Learning Tools addin.\u00a0 After deploying this Microsoft Store app, when students click the <strong>Immersive Reader<\/strong> <strong>button,<\/strong> the newer features and interface will appear.\u00a0 This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Updated and modern user interface<\/li>\n<li>Adverb highlighting<\/li>\n<li>Parts of speech labels<\/li>\n<li>Ability to set custom colors for different parts of speech<\/li>\n<li>More Page Color options<\/li>\n<li>Line Focus<br \/><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload lia-media-image\" title=\"Learning Tools toolbar.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements-2.gif\" alt=\"Learning Tools toolbar.gif\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lia-media-image\" title=\"Learning Tools toolbar.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements-2.gif\" alt=\"Learning Tools toolbar.gif\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. Word Desktop Line Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A popular capability of the Immersive Reader is <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Use-Line-focus-in-Immersive-Reader-for-Office-Online-and-OneNote-815d5ae2-9291-4d57-b6d5-780280da27c7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Line Focus<\/a>, which allows a focus of 1, 3, or 5 lines of text.\u00a0 <strong>Line Focus<\/strong> is coming to Word Desktop, and can be accessed on the <strong>View<\/strong> tab, and then clicking <strong>Learning Tools<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013&gt;\u00a0<strong>Line Focus<\/strong>.\u00a0 This feature has begun to rollout to <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/What-is-Office-Insider-f4208185-b63a-4b68-9c7a-9a32d2411c16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office Insiders<\/a>, and will slowly be rolling out worldwide to all Office 365 customers.\u00a0 Later in spring, <strong>Line Focus<\/strong> will also be coming to Mac and iOS Word.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload lia-media-image\" title=\"Line Focus in Word Desktop.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements.jpg\" alt=\"Line Focus in Word Desktop.jpg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lia-media-image\" title=\"Line Focus in Word Desktop.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/10-learning-tools-updates-for-the-new-year-including-translate-and-inclusive-math-improvements.jpg\" alt=\"Line Focus in Word Desktop.jpg\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Page Colors in Word Desktop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the most popular features of the Immersive Reader has been <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Change-background-color-in-Immersive-Reader-for-OneNote-cec627fe-0853-4ea2-bdb5-77cf47c421e3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">page theme colors<\/a>, which allows the changing of the background color of the page.\u00a0 Many people have challenges reading with an all-white or all-black background, so we\u2019ve expanded the choice of colors in Word Desktop.\u00a0 This will start rolling out to <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/What-is-Office-Insider-f4208185-b63a-4b68-9c7a-9a32d2411c16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office Insiders<\/a> in January, and roll out more broadly after January. Page Colors will be coming to Mac and iOS Word later in spring.\u00a0 To try this out, go to the <strong>View<\/strong> tab and choose <strong>Learning Tools<\/strong>, and then <strong>Page Color.<span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload lia-media-image\" title=\"PageColorCeladon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/media\/PageColorCeladon.png\" alt=\"PageColorCeladon.png\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lia-media-image\" title=\"PageColorCeladon.png\" src=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/media\/PageColorCeladon.png\" alt=\"PageColorCeladon.png\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>7. Parts of Speech and Picture Dictionary support for Korean, and coming soon for Arabic and Hebrew<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Korean support for parts of speech (nouns\/verbs\/adjectives\/adverbs) and picture dictionary are starting to roll out today, and in early February, we will be rolling out Arabic and Hebrew support for parts of speech and picture dictionary.\u00a0 These new languages will be supported in Word Online, OneNote Online, Windows 10 app, iPad and Mac, Outlook Online, Teams and Flipgrid.\u00a0 You can learn about all the languages and features supported in the Immersive Reader here: <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/LearningToolsLanguages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/aka.ms\/LearningToolsLanguages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.\u00a0Dictation in OneNote Online \u2013 rolled out 100% worldwide<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As previously <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/MadeByDyslexia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced in October<\/a>, Dictation is now rolled out 100% worldwide for all OneNote Online customers.\u00a0 Just look for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Dictate-with-your-voice-in-Office-d4fd296e-8f15-4168-afec-1f95b13a6408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dictate button<\/a><\/strong> on the Home tab.<span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload lia-media-image\" title=\"Dictate in OneNote Online.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/media\/Dictate-in-OneNote-Online.jpg\" alt=\"Dictate in OneNote Online.jpg\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lia-media-image\" title=\"Dictate in OneNote Online.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/media\/Dictate-in-OneNote-Online.jpg\" alt=\"Dictate in OneNote Online.jpg\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>9. Dictation in Word Online<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/MadeByDyslexia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced in October<\/a>, Dictation is rolling to Word Online for Office 365.\u00a0 This is currently about 50% rolled out worldwide and was delayed for some improvements, but now we\u2019ve resumed rollout, and we aim to have this at full 100% worldwide by February.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. Auto-language detection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Auto-language detection is helpful Immersive Reader feature that is also rolled out 100% worldwide.\u00a0 An example of how auto-language detection works is to copy text from a Spanish website and pasting into Word Online.\u00a0 Now go to the View tab and choose Immersive Reader.\u00a0 The text will be automatically detected as Spanish, and switch to the proper text-to-speech language, syllables, and parts of speech.\u00a0 Auto-language detection is supported in Word Online, OneNote Online, OneNote for Mac and iOS, Teams, and Flipgrid.<span class=\"lia-inline-image-display-wrapper lia-image-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload lia-media-image\" title=\"Auto Language detect.gif\" src=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/media\/Auto-Language-detect.gif\" alt=\"Auto Language detect.gif\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lia-media-image\" title=\"Auto Language detect.gif\" src=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/media\/Auto-Language-detect.gif\" alt=\"Auto Language detect.gif\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Any questions, give me a shout any time.
