{"id":7204,"date":"2017-12-08T00:29:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T00:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/311267"},"modified":"2017-12-08T00:29:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T00:29:00","slug":"line-wobbler-dev-creates-a-playable-christmas-tree-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2017\/12\/08\/line-wobbler-dev-creates-a-playable-christmas-tree-in-london\/","title":{"rendered":"Line Wobbler dev creates a playable Christmas tree in London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>King&#8217;s Cross station in London is now home to a very interesting playable Christmas tree\u00a0designed by Robin Baumgarten, creator of the one-dimensional dungeon crawler <em>Line Wobbler<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Funded through Games London and Network Rail, the installation and its incorporation of a physical space\u00a0is a unique way of showcasing alternative games which\u00a0feature different input controls and a\u00a0minimalist design.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Standing at six meters high (nearly 20 feet), it contains 200 LED lights and has the trappings of a traditional dungeon crawler. Players\u00a0navigate obstacles and fight\u00a0enemies\u00a0by bending the controller forward and back, while\u00a0enemies are attacked by flinging the spring.<\/p>\n<p>The installation is an adaption of <em>Line Wobbler<\/em> with some additional Christmas adaptations. &#8220;The game itself is running on a handful of Arduinos.&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/gaming\/comments\/7ia79s\/i_created_build_and_today_installed_a_playable\/\">Baumgarten explains<\/a>, and uses &#8220;around 100m of addressable LED strips.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The LED tree will remain in King&#8217;s Cross station until January 4th, 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>King&#8217;s Cross station in London is now home to a very interesting playable Christmas tree\u00a0designed by Robin Baumgarten, creator of the one-dimensional dungeon crawler Line Wobbler.
