{"id":69678,"date":"2018-12-17T22:06:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-17T22:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/333124"},"modified":"2018-12-17T22:06:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-17T22:06:00","slug":"f2p-dev-survey-in-game-mobile-ads-becoming-viable-revenue-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/12\/17\/f2p-dev-survey-in-game-mobile-ads-becoming-viable-revenue-source\/","title":{"rendered":"F2P dev survey: In-game mobile ads becoming viable revenue source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Game analytics company\u00a0DeltaDNA has published its ad\u00a0survey results for 2018, sharing data taken from\u00a0a survey of 336 developers of free-to-play mobile games over a 12 month period.<\/p>\n<p>The findings could be useful for mobile developers who might want some insight into\u00a0how they&#8217;d like to monetize their game in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0survey revealed\u00a0that even though\u00a0the majority of\u00a0casual and hardcore games\u00a0are still earning\u00a0half or more of their revenue from in-app purchases, ad revenue is finally becoming\u00a0viable.<\/p>\n<p>A majority of casual game developers make less than 40 percent of their revenue from ads, but 16 percent said they earned 80 percent or more from the same source.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison,\u00a070 percent of hardcore game developers\u00a0said their games made more than 20 percent of\u00a0revenue from ads &#8211; up from only 50 percent reporting the same amount last year.<\/p>\n<aside id=\"jobs-2014309\">Some other interesting findings from the survey include:\u00a0<\/aside>\n<ul>\n<li>Developers are\u00a0more confident about integrating ads, with 21 percent showing five or more ads per session.<\/li>\n<p>&#013; <\/p>\n<li>The number of developers\u00a0who classify\u00a0in-game ads as an \u2018important monetization opportunity\u2019 has grown from 39 percent in 2016\u00a0to 59 percent in 2018, indicating a\u00a0cultural shift within the industry.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Game analytics company\u00a0DeltaDNA has published its ad\u00a0survey results for 2018, sharing data taken from\u00a0a survey of 336 developers of free-to-play mobile games over a 12 month period.
