There&#8217;s been a recent surge in Switch sales leading into the holiday period and following the release of <strong><a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_smash_bros_ultimate\">Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/pokemon_lets_go_pikachu_and_lets_go_eevee\">Pok\u00e9mon: Let&#8217;s Go, Pikachu! and Let&#8217;s Go, Eevee!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In less than two years of availability within Japan, the Switch has now shifted more than <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/12\/smash_bros_ultimate_sold_1_2_million_copies_in_japan_during_launch_week\">six million units<\/a> (approx. 6,112,100). In the past week, the system sold another 281,222 units. The Vita&#8217;s current total sits at 5,955,448 units and is unlikely to see a return to form with Sony <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/09\/sony_will_step_away_from_the_handheld_games_business_in_2019_leaving_it_all_to_nintendo\">announcing<\/a> in September it was stepping away from the handheld game business in 2019 and had no plans for a future portable device.<\/p>\n<p>On both occasions, Sony&#8217;s handheld systems have failed to make an impact like Nintendo&#8217;s portable hardware.
