{"id":69026,"date":"2018-12-14T22:11:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-14T22:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/333035"},"modified":"2018-12-14T22:11:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-14T22:11:00","slug":"fortnite-dev-team-removes-infinity-blade-for-being-overpowered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/12\/14\/fortnite-dev-team-removes-infinity-blade-for-being-overpowered\/","title":{"rendered":"Fortnite dev team removes Infinity Blade for being &#8216;overpowered&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Infinity Blade in its current state is no more, says <em>Fortnite<\/em> developer Epic Games.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FortniteGame\/status\/1073637422007754753?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1073637422007754753&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.usgamer.net%2Farticles%2Ffortnite-removes-overpowered-infinity-blade\">tweet published<\/a> earlier today, the studio\u00a0explains that\u00a0the weapon is being removed for being overpowered and poorly balanced.<\/p>\n<p>If the name sounds familiar, this comes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/332623\/Citing_support_issues_Epic_stops_selling_Infinity_Blade_games.php\">just a few days after Epic pulled three<\/a>\u00a0<em>Infinity Blade<\/em>\u00a0iOS games (it debuted in 2011 as the first Unreal Engine mobile games) from sale on Apple&#8217;s App Store.<\/p>\n<p>While its not uncommon\u00a0for developers to shelve\u00a0certain things for live games, this could serve\u00a0as a good lesson for fellow devs\u00a0to\u00a0properly\u00a0balance test\u00a0any new features implemented into their games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Introduced back in\u00a0update 7.01, the Blade was the first instance of a &#8220;Mythic&#8221; tier weapon and spawned only once due to its rarity. However, players quickly realized the weapon was unbalanced and reception was poor.<\/p>\n<p>Epic explained in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/FortNiteBR\/comments\/a5ybw7\/lets_talk_about_the_infinity_blade\/\">Reddit post<\/a> how the weapon would be shelved\u00a0for update 7.10, saying the goal &#8220;is to remove the ability to build and harvest when wielding the Blade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When designing the Infinity Blade the goal was to provide a weapon with inherent risk to balance out the great capability it provides \u2013 the ability to harvest\/build removes a great deal of that risk,&#8221; the post\u00a0continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After this removal we\u2019ll continue to monitor the Blade\u2019s effectiveness and make adjustments as necessary as well as communicate those changes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, it seems likely that\u00a0<em>Fortnite<\/em>\u00a0might get rid of the Blade\u00a0entirely, and instead adjust how\u00a0Mythic items are introduced into the game in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Infinity Blade in its current state is no more, says Fortnite developer Epic Games.
