For them, giving is an almost year-round thing, and the results are useful for the rest of your life. In our last episode of What\u2019s New in EDU for 2018, we look back <a href=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/tag\/whats-new-in-edu\/\"><strong>on a year\u2019s worth of tools that supercharged learning<\/strong><\/a> and the amazing educators who brought it all to life for students around the world.<\/p>\n<p>If that\u2019s you: Thank you! Over the past year we\u2019ve heard from thousands of teachers, districts, students \u2013 even parents \u2013 who are excited to step foot in today\u2019s classroom and step up the possibilities available to their students in the future. With your feedback, we\u2019ve been able to keep tailoring tools for educators want to boost and protect student voice, elevating it above the din of our demanding lives. We\u2019ve seen that when students feel heard, feel seen, and feel acknowledged, their motivation to learn grows substantially.<\/p>\n<p>Our passion for empowering all students went big this year, with our CEO Satya Nadella announcing our <a href=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/2018\/10\/whats-new-in-edu-help-dyslexic-students-thrive-call-for-your-story\/\"><strong>partnership with the Made by Dyslexia initiative<\/strong><\/a>. Together, we\u2019ve rolled out new features to make learning more accessible for the 700 million students living with dyslexia.<\/p>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/2018\/04\/whats-new-in-edu-learning-tools-teams-forms-intune\/\"><strong>Learning Tools also got major updates, like the Picture Dictionary<\/strong><\/a>, and continued to grow alongside the students who rely on them for reading every day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/whats-new-in-edu-all-the-news-wrapped-up-for-the-holidays.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/whats-new-in-edu-all-the-news-wrapped-up-for-the-holidays.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also saw another brilliant <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/2018\/09\/whats-new-in-edu-immersive-reader-teams-inclusivity\/\">Hack the Classroom event<\/a><\/strong>, where changemakers in education and the passionate innovators in student-centered learning invented new ways to help students\u00a0build future-ready skills and ignite their interest in STEM learning.<\/p>\n<p>Computer science got a bit of a makeover in 2018 as well \u2013 as you\u2019ll see in the video above, there\u2019s a reason \u201cthe world doesn\u2019t need any more computer scientists,\u201d with educators expanding the subject to include <a href=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/2018\/11\/whats-new-in-edu-minecraft-hour-of-code\/\"><strong>all different kinds of creative projects, passions and people<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You might also remember catching #FlipgridFever this year. We were happy to announce that Flipgrid <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/educationblog.microsoft.com\/2018\/06\/flipgrid-microsoft-education\/\">joined the Microsoft family<\/a><\/strong>, helping recast the role of video in the classroom, from a passive experience to a tool that empowers and amplifies every student\u2019s voice. We also kicked off our <em>You Can<\/em> series of Tips (<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLiluTszfwwMKx-yVe7ekBX6gsLIHf1Z8k\">You Can catch up on all of them here<\/a><\/em><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>And we can\u2019t forget Minecraft: Education Edition\u2019s year of cool coding updates: We announced the new\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/code.org\/minecraft\">Minecraft Hour of Code<\/a><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>tutorial, Voyage Aquatic, where students use their creativity and problem solving skills to explore and build underwater worlds with code. We also expanded coding possibilities in Minecraft: Education Edition with\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/education.minecraft.net\/blog\/download-the-code-builder-update-to-learn-coding-in-minecraft\/\">the new Code Builder update<\/a><\/strong>.
