{"id":68158,"date":"2018-12-11T00:47:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-11T00:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/332623"},"modified":"2018-12-11T00:47:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-11T00:47:00","slug":"citing-support-issues-epic-stops-selling-infinity-blade-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/12\/11\/citing-support-issues-epic-stops-selling-infinity-blade-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Citing support issues, Epic stops selling Infinity Blade games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epicgames.com\/infinityblade\/en-US\/news\/infinity-blade-trilogy-says-goodbye\">blog post<\/a> today Epic Games confirmed reports that it has removed Chair Entertainment&#8217;s three <em>Infinity Blade<\/em> iOS games from sale on Apple&#8217;s App Store, explaining that it no longer makes sense for the company to support the games.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a notable departure given the impact of the\u00a0original <em>Infinity Blade\u00a0<\/em>in 2011, when it debuted as the first Unreal Engine mobile game and went on to set new benchmarks for mobile game design.<\/p>\n<p>But the trilogy of action-RPG swipe-&#8217;em-ups are a few years old at this point (<em>Infinity Blade III\u00a0<\/em>debuted in 2013), and Epic clams that &#8220;with the development of <em>Spyjinx <\/em>and other projects, it has become increasingly difficult for our team to support the <em>Infinity Blade<\/em> series at a level that meets our standards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Spyjinx\u00a0<\/em>is, of course, the spy game project that\u00a0<em>Infinity Blade\u00a0<\/em>dev Chair Entertainment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/259137\/Shadow_Complex_dev_teams_up_with_JJ_Abrams_to_make_a_spy_game.php\">announced<\/a>\u00a0it was working on in conjunction with film director J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company.<\/p>\n<p>As far as other projects go, Epic currently seems intently focused on the continued success of\u00a0<em>Fortnite\u00a0<\/em>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/332456\/Epic_Games_Store_launches_with_handful_of_games.php\">recent launch<\/a> of its own Epic Games Store. The company has also shut down all\u00a0microtransactions offered within the\u00a0<em>Infinity Blade\u00a0<\/em>games, though it plans to continue updating\u00a0<em>Infinity Blade III\u00a0<\/em>through at least the end of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, devs\u00a0can still download the\u00a0<em>Infinity Blade\u00a0<\/em>Unreal Engine assets (culled mainly from cancelled spin-off\u00a0<em>Infinity Blade: Dungeons<\/em>) that Epic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/253370\/7600_Infinity_Blade_assets_now_free_to_Unreal_Engine_developers.php\">released for free in 2015<\/a>.
