{"id":6595,"date":"2017-12-01T00:42:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-01T00:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/310808"},"modified":"2017-12-01T00:42:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-01T00:42:00","slug":"nintendo-dips-back-into-breakfast-cereal-with-its-new-amiibo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2017\/12\/01\/nintendo-dips-back-into-breakfast-cereal-with-its-new-amiibo\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo dips back into breakfast cereal with its new Amiibo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rumors are apparently true: Nintendo&#8217;s getting back into the breakfast cereal game by partnering with the Kellogg Company to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendo.com\/whatsnew\/detail\/super-mario-cereal-from-nintendo-and-kelloggs\">debut<\/a> boxes of Super Mario Cereal which double as Amiibo\u00a0for\u00a0<em>Super Mario Odyssey<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Devs who have been doing this for a while (or were growing up in the U.S. during\u00a0the &#8217;80s) may remember that Nintendo once worked with Ralston Purina\u00a0to release Ralston breakfast cereals themed around\u00a0<em>Super Mario Bros<\/em>.,\u00a0<em>The Legend of Zelda\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Donkey Kong<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>By the &#8217;90s Nintendo seemed to be out of the cereal business, but now it&#8217;s getting back in &#8212; presumably as part of its ongoing efforts to expand its intellectual property licensing business.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe these endeavors are important to spreading awareness of our IP among consumers, but we do not expect that they will drive a major share of our business immediately,&#8221;\u00a0Nintendo chief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/265511\/Nintendos_new_president_Kimishima_takes_the_reins_in_a_new_QA.php\">Tatsumi Kimishima told investors<\/a> in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to have everyone become familiar with our IP by reaching as many people as possible from an early age within their daily lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgamedev.win\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/nintendo-dips-back-into-breakfast-cereal-with-its-new-amiibo.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The rumors are apparently true: Nintendo&#8217;s getting back into the breakfast cereal game by partnering with the Kellogg Company to debut boxes of Super Mario Cereal which double as Amiibo\u00a0for\u00a0Super Mario Odyssey.
