{"id":64143,"date":"2018-11-22T15:08:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-22T15:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/331288"},"modified":"2018-11-22T15:08:00","modified_gmt":"2018-11-22T15:08:00","slug":"total-war-arena-shutting-down-after-failing-to-meet-expectations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/11\/22\/total-war-arena-shutting-down-after-failing-to-meet-expectations\/","title":{"rendered":"Total War: Arena shutting down after failing to meet expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Total War: Arena<\/em> will shut down in February 2019 after the results of its open beta test failed to meet expectations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Developed by franchise custodian Creative Assembly, <em>Arena<\/em> was a free-to-play Windows PC title\u00a0that combined elements of real-time strategy with multiplayer battle arena gameplay.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The game entered open beta on February 22, 2018, and was the first project\u00a0to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/285478\/World_of_Tanks_dev_Wargaming_launches_freetoplay_publishing_arm.php\">emerge from the strategic partnership<\/a> between Wargaming, Sega, and Creative Assembly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has been an absolute privilege to work with you all on this project, but unfortunately the results of Arena open beta test did not meet all our expectations,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/totalwararena.com\/en\/news\/development\/ceasing-operations\/\">explained Creative Assembly in a blog post<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would like to take a moment to thank the <em>Arena<\/em> team, who have poured their heart and soul into this game\u2019s development and are just as disappointed by this as you.
