More than 50 percent\u00a0of jobs require technology skills, and in less than a decade that number will\u00a0grow to\u00a077\u00a0percent\u00a0of jobs.1<\/sup> Just\u00a040%\u00a0of schools have classes that teach programming and if you are a girl, black or Hispanic, or live in a rural community you are even less likely to have access.2<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n

Minecraft and Microsoft\u00a0are committed to\u00a0helping<\/a>\u00a0close\u00a0the\u00a0STEM gap and expanding opportunities for students to learn computer science. For the fourth year, we are\u00a0partnering with\u202fCode.org to support Hour of Code,\u00a0a\u00a0global\u00a0movement demystifying\u00a0computer science\u00a0and making\u00a0coding\u00a0more accessible\u00a0through\u00a0one-hour tutorials and events.\u00a0Hour of Code\u00a0helps students\u00a0get \u2018Future Ready\u2019\u00a0by connecting them\u00a0with STEM learning experiences and career opportunities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today,\u00a0we launched a new Minecraft Hour of Code<\/a> tutorial, the Voyage Aquatic, which takes\u00a0learners\u00a0on an aquatic adventure to find treasure and solve puzzles with coding.\u00a0Voyage Aquatic encourages students to think creatively, try different coding solutions and apply what they learn in mysterious Minecraft worlds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 2015,\u00a0learners\u00a0around the world have\u00a0completed\u00a0nearly 100\u00a0million\u00a0Minecraft Hour of Code\u00a0sessions.\u00a0The\u00a0tutorials\u00a0offer more than 50 puzzles,\u00a0as well as\u00a0professional development, facilitator guides and online training to help educators get started\u00a0teaching computer science.<\/p>\n

Dive into the<\/b>\u00a0Voyage Aquatic<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Minecraft teamed up with four\u00a0YouTube creators \u2013 AmyLee33<\/a>, Netty Plays<\/a>,\u00a0iBallisticSquid\u00a0<\/a>and Tomohawk<\/a>,\u00a0with a cumulative following of more than five million\u00a0\u2013\u00a0for this year\u2019s Minecraft Hour of Code.\u00a0These\u00a0creative\u00a0YouTubers\u00a0guide\u00a0participants\u00a0along\u00a0their\u00a0journey through caves, ruins and underwater reefs\u00a0to solve puzzles and learn coding concepts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Voyage Aquatic<\/a>\u00a0presents\u00a012\u00a0unique\u00a0challenges, focusing on how to use loops and conditionals, two fundamental concepts\u00a0in computer science.\u00a0The tutorial also includes a \u2018free play\u2019 level\u00a0for participants to apply what they learn in the prior puzzles and use coding to build imaginative underwater creations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

People\u202fof all ages and\u202fexperience\u202flevels\u202fcan\u202fuse the Minecraft world\u202fto\u202flearn the basics of coding.\u202fThe\u202ftutorial\u202fis\u202ffree, open to anyone and available\u00a0for any device.\u202fIf your language is not available,\u202fyou can help\u00a0contribute\u00a0to\u00a0translation\u202fhere<\/a>.<\/p>\n
