{"id":57334,"date":"2018-10-24T21:57:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T21:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/329297"},"modified":"2018-10-24T21:57:00","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T21:57:00","slug":"xbox-sees-earnings-rise-on-the-strength-of-third-party-game-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/10\/24\/xbox-sees-earnings-rise-on-the-strength-of-third-party-game-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Xbox sees earnings rise on the strength of third-party game sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/Investor\/earnings\/FY-2019-Q1\/press-release-webcast\">published\u00a0its earnings report<\/a>\u00a0today for the quarter ended September 30, showing an\u00a0increase in gaming revenue driven mainly by third-party titles.<\/p>\n<p>The company said total games revenue for the quarter increased 44 percent, reporting Xbox software and services revenue growth of 36 percent, thanks chiefly to the performance of third-party games.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft&#8217;s games business is under its\u00a0&#8220;more personal computing&#8221; segment,\u00a0which reported $10.7 billion in revenue &#8212; a year-over-year increase of 15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Xbox hardware revenue grew 94 percent against a low prior year comparable, which Microsoft says is due to the timing of the Xbox One X launch.<\/p>\n<p>This is fairly interesting, since the console directly contributed to an increase in games-related <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/314078\/Xbox_One_X_drives_increase_in_Microsoft_games_revenue.php\">revenue last year.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that hardware like the Xbox Adaptive Controller and the subscription-based service Xbox All Access (A two-year payment plan offering an Xbox One, Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass) were released during this past quarter, with the latter seeing &#8220;strong consumer response and exceeded sales expectations.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Company-wide, Microsoft reported quarterly revenues of $29.1 billion, a 19\u00a0percent year-on-year increase compared to this time last fiscal year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft\u00a0published\u00a0its earnings report\u00a0today for the quarter ended September 30, showing an\u00a0increase in gaming revenue driven mainly by third-party titles.
