Valve is\u00a0currently being investigated by Brazil’s Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) after Bolsomito 2k18,\u00a0<\/em>a violent game which tasks players with purging the country of “the evils of communism” and “the growing corruption and inversion of values that plagues\u00a0his society” was published to Steam last week.<\/p>\n

The company has drawn criticism over the past few months after introducing a policy change<\/a> which loosened what content could be sold on the platform.<\/p>\n

However, it seems\u00a0Bolsomito 2k18\u00a0<\/em>doesn’t fall under the “trolling” category (which would be grounds for the game to be removed from the marketplace), even after Valve attempted to clarify the vague term.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported by Eurogamer,<\/a>\u00a0the Brazillian\u00a0government has also opened an investigation into\u00a0Bolsomito\u00a02k18’s\u00a0<\/em>developer BS Studios with the purpose\u00a0to “investigate the availability of the game “Bolsomito 2k18<\/em>“, created by BS Studios and distributed by Valve Corporation (Steam).”<\/p>\n

According to the document<\/a>, the investigation was opened\u00a0due to the game’s release “two\u00a0days before the first round of the Brazilian elections,” and the game’s content, which “clearly intends to harm [the] Presidency of the Republic and thereby embarrass the 2018 elections” and “cause collective moral damages to the movements social, gays and feminists”.<\/p>\n

The game was inspired by the current political climate in Brazil, and both the\u00a0name and player character of the game directly reference\u00a0Brazilian politician Jair\u00a0Bolsonaro, who has been described by Eurogamer<\/a>\u00a0and others as\u00a0frequently\u00a0using misogynistic, homophobic and racist rhetoric\u00a0to sell his political agenda.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The document also states the MPDFT will notify Valve to “cease the availability of the game Bolsomito 2k18<\/em> on their gaming platform,” and “identify and qualify those responsible for BS Studios”.<\/p>\n

As of this publication,\u00a0Bolsomito\u00a02k18\u00a0<\/em>is still available for purchase on Steam, with Valve yet to release a statement regarding the investigation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
