That&#8217;s certainly the case with those who have seen the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/11\/movie_review_pokemon_the_movie_i_choose_you\"><strong>Pok\u00e9mon The Movie: I Choose You!<\/strong><\/a>, which features a Pikachu that can (gasp!) <em>speak English.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The most famous Pocket Monster of all has traditionally only been able to utter its name, but in the new film it actually converses with the hero Ash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You can watch that moment <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/broderick\/status\/930126330615730182\">here<\/a>, but be warned &#8211; not only does the original Tweet contain bad language, there are <em>naughty-type swears<\/em> in the footage as the audience reacts in shock.<\/p>\n<p>Kate Bristol is the person behind Pikachu&#8217;s new voice, and she told Guardian Australia about the recording process:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I know a lot of people might think it\u2019s out of the ordinary for Pikachu to speak English. It\u2019s definitely out of the ordinary. It was hilarious being in the theater with the rest of the cast and hearing the audience\u2019s reaction as a huge collective \u2018What?\u2019 rose up.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I did my best to mimic [Japanese voice actor] Ikue Otani as she is the master. This part in Japanese is adorable. At the end of the day Pok\u00e9mon is a good time and I sure as hell enjoyed being a Pikachu for 0.5 seconds.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some fans have\u00a0interpreted the scene as a dream sequence which occurs entirely in Ash&#8217;s imagination.
