{"id":48797,"date":"2018-09-19T23:05:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-19T23:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/326851"},"modified":"2018-09-19T23:05:00","modified_gmt":"2018-09-19T23:05:00","slug":"mobile-game-dev-outfit7-opens-new-barcelona-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/09\/19\/mobile-game-dev-outfit7-opens-new-barcelona-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"Mobile game dev Outfit7 opens new Barcelona studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Head&#8217;s up, game devs: The mobile game makers at\u00a0<em>Talking Tom\u00a0<\/em>developer Outfit7 <a href=\"https:\/\/outfit7.com\/2018\/09\/talking-tom-takes-spain-outfit7-limited-to-open-mobile-game-studio-in-barcelona\/\">announced<\/a> this week that they&#8217;re opening a new studio in Barcelona, Spain.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a\u00a0dev looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/outfit7.com\/jobs\/\">work<\/a> in Barcelona this seems like a notable event, but even if you aren&#8217;t it&#8217;s\u00a0nice to see a new studio opening up in Barcelona as the Spanish game industry (which currently seems dominated by mobile and work-for-hire studios) continues to grow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Outfit7&#8217;s new Barcelona location will be led by longtime staffer\u00a0Dani Bajc, and it&#8217;s reportedly meant to\u00a0work on\u00a0&#8220;innovative new <em>Talking Tom and Friends<\/em> projects, as well as our several yet-to-be-revealed mobile games.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company, founded in 2009, found success early on with its\u00a0<em>Talking Tom\u00a0<\/em>mobile app, in which a shrill\u00a0animated cat repeats whatever is said into the phone&#8217;s microphone. It&#8217;s since gone on to build <em>Talking Tom\u00a0<\/em>out into a family-oriented transmedia franchise (including a smattering of F2P mobile games),\u00a0and last year it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/289492\/Report_Talking_Tom_dev_Outfit7_acquired_by_Chinese_chemical_firm.php\">acquired<\/a> by a Chinese firm for\u00a0~$1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly thereafter, it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/janeho\/2017\/03\/02\/talking-tom-app-maker-outfit7-flipped-to-chinas-jinke-at-over-1-billion\/#33aa999c661e\">sold<\/a> to another Chinese company (Jinke Entertainment Culture) for roughly the same price.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Head&#8217;s up, game devs: The mobile game makers at\u00a0Talking Tom\u00a0developer Outfit7 announced this week that they&#8217;re opening a new studio in Barcelona, Spain.
