This followed with the third-party developer Tencent <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/08\/tencent_confirms_free-to-play_titles_wont_be_impacted_by_nintendo_switch_online\">confirming<\/a> this with its very own game release, <strong><a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/arena_of_valor\">Arena of Valor<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If this wasn&#8217;t already enough proof, Nintendo has now provided an official statement in the <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/en-americas-support.nintendo.com\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/22521\/p\/897\">Switch Online FAQ<\/a>. Free-to-play online games such as <strong><a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/fortnite\">Fortnite<\/a><\/strong> will be exempt from membership requirements. Here&#8217;s the confirmation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Beginning September 18, 2018, a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to participate in co-op and competitive online features for many first- and third-party Nintendo Switch games, including Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Some games, such as Fortnite, can be played online without a Nintendo Switch membership.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is good news for these types of free-to-play games, ensuring online communities will continue to thrive.
