Pokemon Go<\/em> developer Niantic is working on a Harry Potter-themed game for release in 2018 that will, like its pocket monster predecessor, center around augmented reality.<\/p>\n

This game marks Niantic’s first major project since Pokemon Go<\/em>‘s own groundbreaking launch<\/a> in 2016, and is likely to make use of some of the social features being developed through the company’s recent acquisition of the<\/a> Evertoon<\/a> development team<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The game itself is\u00a0called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite<\/em><\/a> and, like\u00a0Pokemon Go<\/em>, will be a mobile AR game with “significant influence” from the developer’s previous location-based\u00a0game, Ingress<\/em>. Niantic is teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive to develop the title.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the game’s announcement comes packaged with the reveal of Warner Bros. Interactive’s Portkey Games label, a new department\u00a0solely\u00a0dedicated to the creation of video games and mobile experiences inspired by the Harry Potter universe.<\/p>\n

Update:<\/strong> Warner Bros Interactive has confirmed to Gamasutra that the pair is collaborating on\u00a0Harry Potter: Wizards Unite,<\/em> stating that “the game will use state-of-the-art AR mobile technology and allow players to go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters as they explore real-world neighborhoods and cities across the globe.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
