{"id":43038,"date":"2018-08-27T20:41:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-27T20:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/325324"},"modified":"2018-08-27T20:41:00","modified_gmt":"2018-08-27T20:41:00","slug":"report-analyzing-player-preferences-from-the-us-games-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/08\/27\/report-analyzing-player-preferences-from-the-us-games-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Analyzing player preferences from the US games market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Video game research outfit EEDAR\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npd.com\/lps\/pdf\/eedar-segmentation-report-1-sheet1a.pdf\">published a report<\/a> earlier this week showing how the US market\u00a0segments players based on motivations, behavior, preferences, and investment across which\u00a0platforms they use.<\/p>\n<p>Based on data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2018\/8\/27\/17671972\/gamer-types-habits-demographic-research-eeda\">Polygon<\/a>,\u00a0more than 5,000 people who had played a video game in the month of the survey shows 67 percent of Americans play video games, representing an audience of more than 211 million people.<\/p>\n<p>34 percent of people surveyed only use mobile devices, with 59 percent using a mobile device as well as a PC or console. 27 percent use a mobile device, a PC\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0a console.<\/p>\n<p>The report shows players spent an average of $55 on games in the last six months, spending an average of 12 hours a week playing games.<\/p>\n<p>The report split players into six sections as well:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"EiTzCc\">14 percent are &#8220;Console Warriors&#8221; who spend most of their time playing multiplayer action games.<\/li>\n<p>&#013; <\/p>\n<li id=\"fHFz0e\">11 percent are &#8220;Transitionals&#8221;, adults who&#8217;ve spent their lives playing games but now squeeze the hobby\u00a0into their lives.<\/li>\n<p>&#013; <\/p>\n<li id=\"3PBjnS\">13 percent are &#8220;Super Gamers&#8221; who\u00a0are very invested hardcore players.<\/li>\n<p>&#013; <\/p>\n<li id=\"W41ZSB\">17 percent are &#8220;Easy Accessors&#8221;, young players who mostly play whatever is most accessible, often\u00a0mobile games.<\/li>\n<p>&#013; <\/p>\n<li id=\"4rLNQB\">19 percent are &#8220;Daily Dabblers&#8221;, older players who regularly spend time with social and casual games.<\/li>\n<p>&#013; <\/p>\n<li id=\"ht5J2a\">26 percent are &#8220;Incidental Players&#8221; who play mobile games occasionally.<\/li>\n<p>&#013;\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the report\u00a0provides an overview of factors affecting device\/platform choices and\u00a0preferences, games as a service engagement on PC\/Console, and awareness and engagement with streaming and eSports.<\/p>\n<p>Interested developers can download the free report\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eedar.com\/eedar-blog\/introducing-the-2018-player-segmentation-syndicated-report\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Video game research outfit EEDAR\u00a0published a report earlier this week showing how the US market\u00a0segments players based on motivations, behavior, preferences, and investment across which\u00a0platforms they use.
