{"id":39219,"date":"2018-08-10T20:46:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-10T20:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/324250"},"modified":"2018-08-10T20:46:00","modified_gmt":"2018-08-10T20:46:00","slug":"over-a-year-later-south-korean-devs-still-arent-allowed-to-publish-games-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/08\/10\/over-a-year-later-south-korean-devs-still-arent-allowed-to-publish-games-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Over a year later, South Korean devs still aren&#8217;t allowed to publish games in China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chinese government instituted a full ban on the release of new South Korea-developed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/293275\/Report_China_halts_licensing_for_South_Koreamade_games_amid_political_turmoil.php\">video games last year<\/a>, and it seems as though South Korean game developers and publishers are <em>still<\/em> not able to\u00a0obtain new licenses which would allow them to publish games in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Put into place on March 2017, the ban halts the licensing of yet-unreleased games of a South Korean origin and essentially\u00a0cuts the country off from one of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/280692\/Report_China_will_have_465_million_mobile_players_by_the_end_of_2016.php\">largest mobile game markets in the world<\/a>, making it impossible for South Korean devs to succeed in the\u00a0market.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The newly formed Chinese regulatory body, the State Administration of Radio and Television, has not granted any new licenses since March 28th for any mobile game by a South Korean dev or publisher.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ban was initially speculated\u00a0as a response\u00a0to a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THADD) missile defense system built in South Korea to protect against potential attacks from North Korea.
