We&#8217;ll go into more detail about what these colours mean later.<\/p>\n<p>Even if that Pok\u00e9mon has a red coloured circle, there are ways you can increase the capture rate. Your first order of business should be to use a Razz Berry and to select a better Pok\u00e9 Ball, like an Ultra Ball.<\/p>\n<p>You can also increase your chances of catching the Pok\u00e9mon with a well timed and delivered throw. If your Pok\u00e9 Ball lands within that coloured circle, your chances of capturing the Pok\u00e9mon will increase.\u00a0This increased chance is at its highest when the circle is at its smallest.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"object object-youtube\">\n<div class=\"youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Then there are curve balls! These are performed by first spinning the Pok\u00e9 Ball and then throwing it to make it curve before it hits the Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n<p>To pull these off, you&#8217;ll first want to spin the Pok\u00e9\u00a0Ball and then swipe to throw it. Make sure you throw against the curve\u00a0(in the opposite direction to the one you were spinning), or the Pok\u00e9 Ball won&#8217;t even hit the Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll also want to alter your throw direction depending on how far the Pok\u00e9mon is away from you. If they&#8217;re close, you&#8217;ll want to throw it wide so it curves in quicker. The capture rate increases depending on the radius of the coloured circle you land your Pok\u00e9 Ball in.<\/p>\n<p>Though we&#8217;re not sure how accurate it is exactly, the guys over at <a href=\"https:\/\/pokemongo.gamepress.gg\/guct-berry-throw-bonus-multipliers\">Game Press Pok\u00e9mon GO<\/a> settled on these capture rates:<\/p>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Throw:<\/th>\n<th>Nice<\/th>\n<th>Great<\/th>\n<th>Excellent<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Target Ring Size<\/td>\n<td>70% &#8211; 100%<\/td>\n<td>30% &#8211; 70%<\/td>\n<td>~5% &#8211; 30%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Bonus (varies with radius)<\/td>\n<td>1 &#8211; 1.3<\/td>\n<td>\n<ol>\n<li>3 &#8211; 1.7<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ol>\n<li>7\u00a0&#8211; ~1.95<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>To bring more clarity to this chart, the target ring size is the size the coloured ring has to be compared to the outer grey ring to trigger the throw bonus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As you can see though, the size of the coloured ring can vary to trigger the bonus, and the bonus can increase depending on the size.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a nice throw at 80% will have a higher throw bonus than a nice throw at 90%.<\/p>\n<h2>What Else Can\u00a0I Do To Increase The Capture Rate?<\/h2>\n<p>Nothing that serves to increase your chance from a statistical perspective, but there are a few things you can do to make your life generally easier:<\/p>\n<h3>Turn Off AR Mode<\/h3>\n<p>AR mode is a fun little gimmick that lets you see the Pok\u00e9mon wandering around in the real world, but if you&#8217;re serious about catching Pok\u00e9mon we&#8217;d recommend avoiding it.<\/p>\n<p>Not only does it drain your phone&#8217;s battery, but it also makes it difficult to judge the distance between you and the Pok\u00e9mon. When it&#8217;s turned off, the Pok\u00e9mon is in a fixed position on the screen, making your throws a little easier to predict.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are certain Pok\u00e9mon that are a pain to catch in standard mode, and being able to move closer to them in AR mode might actually be helpful. So don&#8217;t treat it as a one rule fixes all.<\/p>\n<h3>Learn The L Throw Curve Technique<\/h3>\n<p>A certain member of the Pok\u00e9mon community developed the reliable &#8216;L Throw&#8217; technique that reportedly makes it easier to catch Pok\u00e9mon using a curve throw.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This involves spinning the Pok\u00e9 Ball clockwise, then sliding your finger up the screen to the left of the Pok\u00e9mon and releasing it when it&#8217;s level with the Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"object object-youtube\">\n<div class=\"youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Savvy players will want to time their finger slide when the circle is nearing its smallest to grab that increased capture rate too!<\/p>\n<h3>Get A\u00a0Grip On The Throwing Physics<\/h3>\n<p>This seems a bit vague, but understanding the ball physics and getting a feel for them will really improve your accuracy, which, in turn, increases your chance of getting a capture rate increase.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Your throw changes depending on the speed and length of the swipe, which in turn affects the trajectory of the ball. A good rule of thumb is that you want to swipe longer to hit Pok\u00e9mon further away, and short swipes to hit Pok\u00e9mon closer to you.<\/p>\n<p>Speed can also help. If a Pok\u00e9mon is particularly far away, you might want to gather a bit of pace to help it reach the distance, while a close up Pok\u00e9mon might just benefit from a smaller throw.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not something we can give you a definitive answer on here.
