Leaked data from Valve’s API was available for a very short\u00a0amount of time earlier this week, offering\u00a0developers a clear look at the\u00a0number of games Steam has actually sold before the leak was properly closed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While it’s likely the last accurate snapshot<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0sales numbers devs will\u00a0get for a while,\u00a0Ars Technica<\/a>\u00a0compiled a list of the 1,000 best-selling games on Steam as of this week using a\u00a0new data derivation method<\/a>\u00a0written by Tyler Glaiel.<\/p>\n The data method\u00a0revolves around\u00a0the percentage of players who have completed\u00a0developer-defined achievements associated with many games on the service, and because this data is derived\u00a0from Steam’s API for each game, it’s\u00a0more accurate than the old Steam Spy estimation method.<\/p>\n However, developer of Steam Spy Sergey Galyonkin was able to integrate the data method written by Glaiel into the machine learning algorithm used for Steam Spy,\u00a0where the data was momentarily\u00a0displayed on individual game pages earlier in the week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
