{"id":20656,"date":"2018-05-16T21:25:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T21:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/318250"},"modified":"2018-05-16T21:25:00","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T21:25:00","slug":"take-twos-fortunes-on-the-rise-ahead-of-red-dead-redemption-2-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/05\/16\/take-twos-fortunes-on-the-rise-ahead-of-red-dead-redemption-2-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Take-Two&#8217;s fortunes on the rise ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2 debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The folks at Take-Two Interactive have\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ir.take2games.com\/phoenix.zhtml?c=86428&amp;p=irol-newsarticle&amp;ID=2349458\">published their\u00a0financials<\/a> for the year ended March 31, 2018, and it appears the U.S. publisher had a good year fueled primarily by recurrent spending in games like\u00a0<em>Grand Theft Auto Online<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Take-Two reports $173.5 million (GAAP) in net income on $1.79\u00a0billion in net revenues for the year, which is just a bit more revenue and quite a bit more profit (roughly 158 percent more)\u00a0than the company saw in the year prior, when it earned $67.3 million on $1.78 billion in revenues.<\/p>\n<p>Recurrent consumer spending (think: sales of DLC, in-game currency, etc.) reportedly grew 63 percent to account for 42 percent of the year&#8217;s total net revenue, which is quite a bit more than the 26 percent of total net revenue it accounted for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/298599\/Revenue_up_at_TakeTwo_as_key_franchises_deliver.php\">last (fiscal) year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The big revenue-generators this year were, unsurprisingly, led by\u00a0<em>Grand Theft Auto V\u00a0<\/em>\/\u00a0<em>Grand Theft Auto Online<\/em>,\u00a0<em>NBA 2K17\u00a0<\/em>\/\u00a0<em>NBA 2K18<\/em>,\u00a0<em>WWE 2K18<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>WWE SuperCard<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>GTA Online\u00a0<\/em>was cited as an especially over-performing earner in the fourth quarter of the year, which actually came in a bit lower year-over-year. For just the three months ending March 31st, Take-Two reported $90.9 million in net income on $540.3 million in revenues, a bit less than the $99.3 million it earned on $571.6 million in sales it saw in the same quarter a year prior.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the fourth quarter, Take-Two delivered Net Bookings growth driven by increased recurrent consumer spending \u2013 including better-than-expected results from\u00a0<em>Grand Theft Auto Online<\/em>,\u201d stated company chief\u00a0Strauss Zelnick in the earnings release. \u201c<em>Grand Theft Auto Online\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>NBA2K<\/em>\u00a0generated record results, exceeding our original expectations, and we benefited from strong ongoing sales of\u00a0<em>Grand Theft Auto V<\/em>\u00a0and other catalog titles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the year ahead, the company aims to hit $180-$211 million in profits on $2.5-$2.6 billion in revenue, driven largely by recurrent spending and the debut of Rockstar Games&#8217;\u00a0<em>Red Dead Redemption 2\u00a0<\/em>in late October.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The folks at Take-Two Interactive have\u00a0published their\u00a0financials for the year ended March 31, 2018, and it appears the U.S. publisher had a good year fueled primarily by recurrent spending in games like\u00a0Grand Theft Auto Online.
