In fact, <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/06\/a_new_pokemon_rpg_has_been_confirmed_for_development_for_nintendo_switch\"><strong>The\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Company already announced it back in 2017, during the E3 Nintendo Direct<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The initial rumours predicted it would be\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2016\/11\/rumour_new_version_of_pokemon_sun_and_moon_pokemon_stars_is_coming_to_the_nintendo_switch\">Pok\u00e9mon Stars<\/a><\/strong>, an ultimate version of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/3ds\/pokemon_sun_and_moon\"><strong>Pok\u00e9mon\u00a0Sun and Moon<\/strong><\/a>. But the subsequent launch of <strong>Ultra Sun and Moon<\/strong> on the 3DS combined with comments made by The\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Company have resulted in a move away from that rumour.<\/p>\n<p>Here, we&#8217;re going to round up everything we know about the elusive Pok\u00e9mon\u00a0Switch in one place to whet your appetites. We&#8217;ll keep this updated as we learn more, so it might be worth bookmarking so you don&#8217;t miss anything.<\/p>\n<h2>Pok\u00e9mon Switch will mark the start of Generation Eight<\/h2>\n<p>In a recent issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine, <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/04\/official_nintendo_magazine_confirms_pokemon_on_switch_will_be_generation_eight\"><strong>The\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Company confirmed that\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Switch will mark the debut of Generation Eight<\/strong><\/a>. That pretty much confirms that it&#8217;s a brand new entry, given how each of them have introduced a new generation into the mix so far.<\/p>\n<p>What it also suggests is that we&#8217;ll visit a brand new region, too. Again, each new entry in the\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon games has so far introduced a new region alongside a new generation.<\/p>\n<h2>Pok\u00e9mon\u00a0Switch will feature new mechanics<\/h2>\n<p>Also revealed in the issue of Official Nintendo Magazine, is that\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Switch will feature all new mechanics. The\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Company confirmed that it&#8217;s rethinking the series entirely to provide a new way to play.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s all we know at a factual level, but our brains are already whirring at the possibilities. Will this be\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild\">Breath of the Wild<\/a><\/strong>? We can only hope.<\/p>\n<h2>Pok\u00e9mon Switch will likely feature multiplayer<\/h2>\n<p>Pok\u00e9mon always feels like it should be a <em>true<\/em> co-operative multiplayer experience, but it wasn&#8217;t until\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/mobile\/pokemon_go\"><strong>Pok\u00e9mon GO<\/strong><\/a> in 2016 that this side of the game started to bear fruit.<\/p>\n<p>The Switch&#8217;s online options, while admittedly not perfect, are far and away the best Nintendo&#8217;s managed so far. That&#8217;s something the Pok\u00e9mon Company is well aware of, it seems, as it said the following quote in an interview of Bloomberg: &#8220;Until now, games were made as one for one person, but now you can go home and play with everyone &#8212; so how do we tackle these themes, and how do we make sure it\u2019s not complicated?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>While that&#8217;s not gold-plated proof that\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Switch will feature multiplayer, it does suggest that some form of it will make it into the game.<\/p>\n<h2>Pok\u00e9mon Switch could return to the Kanto region<\/h2>\n<p>Though this runs counter to our first point (unless\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Switch features all or returning regions alongside a new one), a leaked image <em>did<\/em> suggest a return to Kanto. It&#8217;s very blurry, but below you can see it in all its glory. In case you can&#8217;t make it out, it&#8217;s a trainer riding a Lapras through what appears to be Route 21.<\/p>\n<p>However, this could be a completely different game entirely from the core\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon game that arrives on Switch. Perhaps this is yet another remake of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/gameboy\/pokemon_red_and_blue\">Pok\u00e9mon Red and Blue<\/a><\/strong>? Or maybe it&#8217;s fake? You decide&#8230;<\/p>\n<aside class=\"picture strip\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/04\/guide_pokemon_switch_-_everything_we_know_so_far\/attachment\/1\/original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/04\/guide_pokemon_switch_-_everything_we_know_so_far\/attachment\/1\/900x.jpg\" alt=\"pokemon-kanto.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>Pok\u00e9mon Switch could be\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Stars<\/h2>\n<p>Though this is looking increasingly less likely as the rumour mill swirls, there is some credibility to the earlier rumours that\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Switch will be an enhanced version of\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Sun and\u00a0Moon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2016\/11\/rumour_new_version_of_pokemon_sun_and_moon_pokemon_stars_is_coming_to_the_nintendo_switch\">Eurogamer<\/a> claimed that &#8220;multiple sources&#8221; had confirmed\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Stars to them back in 2016, though didn&#8217;t cite any in particular.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;sources&#8221; claimed that\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Stars was the codename for this\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Switch game, and that it would launch in 2017.\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon would be tradeable between the 3DS and Switch versions of the game via an app named &#8220;Pok\u00e9mon Bank&#8221;. The below image of a HD Pikipek was also bandied about as evidence for a while as well.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"picture strip\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/04\/guide_pokemon_switch_-_everything_we_know_so_far\/attachment\/2\/original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/04\/guide_pokemon_switch_-_everything_we_know_so_far\/attachment\/2\/900x.jpg\" alt=\"pokemon-stars.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Pok\u00e9mon Stars didn&#8217;t materialise in 2017, though an enhanced version <em>did<\/em> arrive on 3DS in the form of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/3ds\/pokemon_ultra_sun_and_ultra_moon\"><strong>Ultra Sun and Moon<\/strong><\/a>. That doesn&#8217;t mean we still won&#8217;t see\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Stars on Switch, but if we do it will be entirely separate from the core\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon RPG. Perhaps it&#8217;s designed to bridge the gap?<\/p>\n<h2>When will\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Switch release?<\/h2>\n<p>That&#8217;s the million dollar question! <strong><a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/07\/pokemon_on_nintendo_switch_is_due_2018_or_later_but_thats_no_surprise\">The Pok\u00e9mon Company has stated on two different occasions that we&#8217;ll see it in &#8220;2018 or later&#8221;<\/a><\/strong>, which is an incredibly wide release timeline.
