Pull out that map for all your tourist needs!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This 1967\u00a0street guide was\u00a0something I&#8217;m real happy with getting into fan&#8217;s hands. Paul did a fantastic job making it look authentic.\u00a0 He went through <a href=\"http:\/\/paulrandpierce.com\/mafia-iii-world-map\">several styles<\/a> with publishing&#8217;s\u00a0Art Director Rob Clarke.\u00a0 Once all DLC was known, an updated version was created for all future copies of the game.<\/p>\n<p>One of the other reasons the Road Atlas is special\u00a0\u2212 it allowed us to showcase a lot of the names and locations that weren&#8217;t mentioned or used heavily in the story.\u00a0 Study the map and you&#8217;ll discover lots of new material such as&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Tourist Spots<\/em><\/strong><br \/>All those famous landmarks and city areas you visited had names!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgamedev.win\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/blog-designing-the-gigantic-map-of-mafia-iii-3.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Handwritten Notes<\/em><\/strong><br \/>Both Lincoln &amp; Donovan scribbled notes on the map, like where all the entrances to the\u00a0tunnels were. Even though\u00a0Donovan choose to write his in red, I&#8217;ve no idea who&#8217;s blood is\u00a0on the map&#8230;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgamedev.win\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/blog-designing-the-gigantic-map-of-mafia-iii-4.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Special Locations<\/em><\/strong><br \/>Did you find\u00a0the sinking Bayou cemetery?\u00a0This was made for a scene cut from the start of the game. Other trivia, the row of cabins along\u00a0Bourbon Digs&#8217; canal was made for a crossfire encounter which was never used.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgamedev.win\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/blog-designing-the-gigantic-map-of-mafia-iii-5.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A fun thing to do with these HUGE world maps&#8230; they&#8217;re the\u00a0same scale\u00a0as the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.damonpollard.com\/grand-theft-auto-v-the-map\/\">official\u00a0GTA5 maps<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgamedev.win\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/blog-designing-the-gigantic-map-of-mafia-iii.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Mafia Series<\/h2>\n<p>And for those curious, here&#8217;s all three Mafia game worlds next to one another.\u00a0 While the first Mafia game looks fairly big, remember the player didn&#8217;t get to explore most of the areas outside the city.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgamedev.win\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/blog-designing-the-gigantic-map-of-mafia-iii-6.png\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Interactive Map<\/h2>\n<p>I also experimented with using these like\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curiousconstructs.com\/mafia3world\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google Map<\/a>\u00a0to find lost airplanes or secret routes.\u00a0 It&#8217;d be fun to take other gameworlds\u00a0and add them as layers you can flip through for comparison.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.curiousconstructs.com\/mafia3world\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgamedev.win\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/blog-designing-the-gigantic-map-of-mafia-iii-1.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When you look at the huge 3D rendered map, you can see all the hours and talented people who made each cityblock a believable, tangible place for Mafia&#8217;s third chapter.\u00a0 I hope anyone who ventured into New Bordeaux felt it captured the Louisiana heat of 1968.<\/p>\n<p><em>This post originally appeared on my website at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curiousconstructs.com\/games\/m3-world-maps\/\">CuriousConstructs.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following blog post, unless otherwise noted, was written by a member of Gamasutra\u2019s community.The thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the writer and not Gamasutra or its parent company.
