{"id":15398,"date":"2018-03-19T15:16:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T15:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/315641"},"modified":"2018-03-19T15:16:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T15:16:00","slug":"epic-gifts-over-12m-worth-of-paragon-assets-to-unreal-engine-devs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/03\/19\/epic-gifts-over-12m-worth-of-paragon-assets-to-unreal-engine-devs\/","title":{"rendered":"Epic gifts over $12M worth of Paragon assets to Unreal Engine devs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Epic is giving Unreal Engine 4 devs access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrealengine.com\/en-US\/blog\/epic-games-releases-12-million-worth-of-paragon-assets-for-free\">over $12 million\u00a0worth of assets<\/a> from its soon-to-be shuttered online\u00a0shooter, <em>Paragon<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The free-to-play offering launched back in 2016, but struggled to find its feet in a market dominated by titles like <em>League of Legends<\/em> and <em>Dota 2<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Epic eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/313788\/Epic_is_closing_down_Paragon_and_offering_refunds_to_players.php\">decided to shut down the game,<\/a> claiming it couldn&#8217;t find a &#8220;clear path&#8221; to sustainability, and promised to refund players for every purchase they&#8217;ve made since launch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Every cloud has a silver lining, however, and as <em>Paragon<\/em> prepares to wind down for good on April 26, Epic has given\u00a0the game a new lease on\u00a0life\u00a0by releasing its assets into the wild.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That includes 20 &#8220;triple-A quality&#8221; characters, with their respective skins, animations, VFX\u00a0and dialogue, and\u00a0over 1500 environment components.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All of that content is now available for free over on the Unreal Engine Marketplace, and Epic has given developers free rein to use any and all of them in their own Unreal Engine 4 projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For those interested in importing <em>Paragon<\/em> characters into their projects, we\u00a0recommend\u00a0starting with Shinbi, who comes with an animation blueprint,&#8221; wrote Epic, offering\u00a0some pointers on where best to start.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This can be used as a framework for animating the other characters in the <em>Paragon<\/em> packs.
