{"id":14777,"date":"2018-03-09T22:10:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-09T22:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/315405"},"modified":"2018-03-09T22:10:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-09T22:10:00","slug":"google-maps-transforms-into-mario-kart-for-mario-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2018\/03\/09\/google-maps-transforms-into-mario-kart-for-mario-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Maps transforms into Mario Kart for Mario Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National Mario Day has been\u00a0observed on March 10\u00a0after the realization that the abbreviated date (MAR10) spells out the character&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n<p>In celebration,Google and Nintendo collaborated in\u00a0bringing\u00a0<em>Mario Kart<\/em> to Google Maps on iOS and Android.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time Google has incorporated video games into Maps, as users were able to play <em>Ms. Pac Man<\/em> during April Fools&#8217; Day last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Starting today,\u00a0users will be able to enable Mario in becoming the\u00a0navigation arrow as he drives en route to a destination in his kart.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/maps\/putting-mario-map\/\">a blog posted to Google<\/a>, this feature will only be around for a week and can be accessed by tapping an icon at the bottom-right corner of the app.\u00a0Following the prompt on screen will jump start navigating the roads\u00a0as Mario.<\/p>\n<p>UX engineer at Google Maps Munish Dabas cautions users to drive safely, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/maps\/putting-mario-map\/\">posting the reminder to<\/a> &#8220;practice safe driving on the road\u2014we don\u2019t encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Mario Day has been\u00a0observed on March 10\u00a0after the realization that the abbreviated date (MAR10) spells out the character&#8217;s name.
