Galaxy Movie\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption\"><em class=\"credit\"><span class><\/span> Image: Nintendo, Illumination<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2026\/04\/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-is-already-breaking-box-office-records\">first day box office results<\/a> for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/features\/movie-review-the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-a-faithful-but-overstuffed-sequel\">The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a><\/strong> in the US, the opening day performance of Mario&#8217;s movie sequel globally has now been revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has officially opened with a global box office figure of <strong>$68.4 million<\/strong>, putting it ahead of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2023\/04\/movie-review-the-super-mario-bros-movie-a-fun-ride-that-substitutes-story-for-spectacle\">The Super Mario Bros. Movie<\/a><\/strong>, which banked <strong>$66.4 million<\/strong> on its first day. Deadline also reports how several records have been broken.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the opening day results for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie worldwide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Mexico<\/strong> with <strong>$6.7M<\/strong> scored the biggest Universal opening ever there and the second biggest animated opening ever. The first day beat <em>Super Mario Bros<\/em>\u2018 $5.9M<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>UK &amp; Ireland<\/strong> posted <strong>$4.3M<\/strong>, which is the second highest single-day preview figure for an animated film in the history of box office on the isle.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Germany\u2019<\/strong>s <strong>$3.8M<\/strong> reps the biggest animated opening of all-time and Universal\u2019s biggest opening of all-time. The first movie posted a $2.8M first day.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Spain<\/strong>\u2018s <strong>$3M<\/strong> was the second highest opening day for an animated title of all-time, as well as the 3rd biggest opening day of all-time behind Twilight and Inside Out 2. It was also an improvement upon the 2023\u2019s $2.2M.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>France<\/strong>\u2018s <strong>$2.9M<\/strong> is the second biggest Illumination opening of all-time (and the biggest outside of holidays).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Central America<\/strong>\u2018s <strong>$1.8M<\/strong> scored the second biggest opening day of all-time in the market, only behind Avengers: Endgame. <em>Super Mario Bros<\/em> did a reported $1.3M there.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Austria<\/strong>\u2018s <strong>$700K<\/strong> repped the biggest Universal opening day of all-time in the market and the biggest Animation opening day of all-time.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Other opening day grosses included <strong>Italy<\/strong> (<strong>$1.5M<\/strong>), <strong>Colombia<\/strong> (<strong>$1.1M<\/strong>) and <strong>Australia<\/strong> (<strong>$0.7M<\/strong>).<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once again, Galaxy banked <strong>$34 million<\/strong> in the US on its opening day &#8211; making it the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2026\/04\/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-is-already-breaking-box-office-records\">&#8220;best opening day so far this year&#8221;<\/a>, while also claiming the best &#8220;opening Wednesday&#8221; in April, taking the title from the first movie, which made <strong>$31.7 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As noted by the source, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will launch in locations such as Japan and Korea later this month, so expect more figures soon.<\/p>\n<p>The Super Mario Galaxy Movie currently has a critic score of 42% and an audience score of 90% on <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/the_super_mario_bros_movie\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>.
