In the Switch eShop versions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/pokemon_firered_and_leafgreen\">Pok\u00e9mon FireRed &amp; LeafGreen<\/a>, it seems there have been some updates to this.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by Kotaku, you&#8217;ll either have to get <em>really<\/em> creative now, or there&#8217;s a good chance the game will override whatever you&#8217;ve input and instead give you a generic name. Here&#8217;s a sample of some of the words that won&#8217;t fly:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;Kotaku<\/em> has verified that some words, such as \u201cd**k,\u201d \u201cp***y,\u201d \u201cs**t,\u201d and even the f-slur are replaced by names like \u201cGary\u201d or \u201cJanne.\u201d This doesn\u2019t seem to extend to some milder words, however, as \u201chell\u201d and \u201cdamn\u201d were not replaced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<aside class=\"object object-oembed\"><!-- cache: oembed\/https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pokemon\/comments\/1rg8crf\/rhey_censored_fire_red_leaf_green\/ @ 2026-02-28T01:20:22+00:00 --><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\"><p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pokemon\/comments\/1rg8crf\/rhey_censored_fire_red_leaf_green\/\">Rhey censored Fire Red &amp; Leaf Green<\/a><br \/>by<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/RemnentofPudding\/\">u\/RemnentofPudding<\/a> in<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pokemon\/\">pokemon<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p>This update appears to impact Pok\u00e9mon names as well. One obvious theory suggests the update is to prevent users from flooding social media with screenshots and footage containing offensive language. This also wouldn&#8217;t be the best look, as Pok\u00e9mon is meant to be a family-friendly experience for all ages.<\/p>\n<p>As many trainers have highlighted, this confirms these classic Game Boy Advance releases have actually been edited for this special release.
