They argue that the fee structure puts their apps at a disadvantage compared to their U.S. rivals.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Coalition for Apps Fairness (CAF) is made up of companies, including Astropad, Epic Games, Masimo, Life360, Proton, Spotify, and more. Many of these companies have <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/20\/08\/23\/apple-versus-epic-games-fortnite-app-store-saga----the-story-so-far\">waged war<\/a> on Apple both on and off U.S. soil. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This situation <a href=\"https:\/\/appfairness.org\/open-letter-stop-apples-illegal-app-store-fees-under-dma\/\">is untenable<\/a> and damaging to the app economy,&#8221; CAF said in a statement, first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/boards-policy-regulation\/app-developers-urge-eu-action-apple-fee-practices-2025-12-16\/\">spotted by<\/a> <em>Reuters<\/em>. The CTE had developers pay Apple 27% of their App Store earnings to cover the company&#8217;s hosting and distribution costs.\n<\/p>\n<p>The fees Apple proposed were an Acquisition Fee, Store Services Fee, and CTE or Commission. <\/p>\n<p>The Acquisition Fee is 2% on sales of digital goods and services, for up to six months from a user&#8217;s initial download. The Store Services Fee pays for the platform, and varies between 5% and 13%, with discounts for small businesses and others.\n<\/p>\n<p>Currently, it isn&#8217;t clear whether Apple&#8217;s shuffling of fees was enough <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/25\/10\/08\/apples-eu-digital-markets-act-antitrust-debacle-may-be-settled-soon\">to placate<\/a> the European Commission. What is clear, though, is that EU developers don&#8217;t pass on App Store fee savings <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/25\/11\/12\/eu-developers-dont-pass-on-app-store-fee-savings-to-users\">to users,<\/a> despite App Store rates falling roughly 10%. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A coalition of developers has petitioned the European Commission, saying Apple&#8217;s revised App Store fees continue to disadvantage EU apps.
