The 2023 inductees for The Strong Museum ‘World Video Game Hall of Fame’ have now been revealed and Wii Sports<\/a> has officially been selected.<\/p>\n

It was picked alongside Barbie Fashion Designer<\/strong>, Computer Space<\/strong> and PlayStation’s hit, The Last of Us<\/strong>. Unfortunately, games like Rare’s GoldenEye 007<\/a>, Quake<\/a> and Age of Empires<\/strong> missed out. You can see the other games that didn’t make the cut in the original story.<\/p>\n

It’s that time of year again when The Strong Museum<\/a> announces its ‘World Video Game Hall of Fame’ finalists and for 2023 there’s been two Nintendo classics nominated.<\/p>\n

First up is the 2006 Wii launch title Wii Sports<\/a> – featuring five motion controller sports in one collection, and next, we’ve got Rare’s licensed N64 shooter from 1997, GoldenEye 007<\/a>. As amazing as both of these titles are, they’re also up against some serious competition.<\/p>\n

The other nominees include the following games: id Software’s influential FPS Quake<\/a>, Microsoft’s legendary RTS Age of Empires<\/strong>, arguably the best<\/em> CoD – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare<\/a><\/strong>, EA’s long-running FIFA<\/a><\/strong> series, the mobile sensation Angry Birds<\/a><\/strong>, 2K’s highly popular NBA<\/a><\/strong> series, Naughty Dog’s PlayStation success story The Last of Us<\/strong>, 1996 hit Barbie Fashion Designer<\/strong>, the 1981 fantasy role-playing pioneer Wizardry<\/strong> and the first commercial video game Computer Space<\/strong> – dating back to 1971.<\/p>\n

You can vote once per day<\/strong><\/a>, and the three games that receive the most public votes will be submitted on one ballot to join the other “top-three submissions” from members of the National Selection Advisory Committee. The final inductees will be revealed on 4th May<\/strong>. Here’s the criteria the final selections are based on:<\/p>\n

“The World Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong recognizes electronic games of all types that have enjoyed popularity over a sustained period and have exerted influence on the video game industry or on popular culture and society in general.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The selected titles will existing inductees like Animal Crossing<\/a>, Super Mario Bros.<\/a>, Street Fighter II<\/a>, Minecraft<\/a> and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time<\/a>. You can see past inductees on The Strong National Museum of Play website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
