But we haven’t seen much of the game for a while except through continued monthly development updates — and in part because a prequel, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, launched earlier in the year.

But publisher 505 Games has brought the game to this year’s Gamescom, and it’s shown off a bit more of the game, from the cutscenes to the visuals. (Thanks Gematsu!)

The new trailer gives us a look at Nowa and Seign, whose stories become intertwined after meeting during an expedition. The pixel art and animations look to be a step up from Rising, and the environment — like the misty caves and lush forests — looks gorgeous, too. You might also recognise a few characters from the game’s prequel!

We’ve also got a brief summary of the game’s story, which looks to replicate the style and maturity of the Suikoden series.

Our story begins in one corner of Allraan, a tapestry of nations with diverse cultures and values.

By dint of sword, and by way of magical objects known as “rune-lenses,” the land’s history has been shaped by the alliances and aggressions of the humans, beastmen, elves, and desert people who live there.

The Galdean Empire has edged out other nations and discovered a technology that amplifies the rune-lenses’ magic.

Now, the Empire is scouring the continent for an artifact that will expand their power even further.

It is on one such expedition that Seign Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, meet each other and become friends.

However, a twist of fate will soon drag them into the fires of war, and force them both to reexamine everything they believe to be right and true.

Check out Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes’ brand new trailer below. We’re still waiting for an exact release date, but the game is due to launch in 2023.

[embedded content]
Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube

What do you think of the new trailer?
