You also have a sidekick \u2014 your faithful dog, Noxe, who you can pet at any time.<\/p>\n<p>Potion Permit has a gorgeous art style, plenty of heart, and it&#8217;s being made by MassHive Media, a studio based in Bandung, Indonesia. How does it feel to be representing the country as developers?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MassHive:<\/strong> We have a lot of indie game developers spread around Indonesia and the numbers continue to grow each day from PC to mobile game developers.<\/p>\n<p>Even though not everyone always sees this industry as a good career path, we feel proud and happy with what we\u2019ve done up until now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can heal people and befriend them \u2013 but what can you improve about yourself in the game?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Players can upgrade their clinic, house, foraging tools, and so much more. They can also personalize their home with some furniture.<\/p>\n<p>However, changing the opinion of the Moonbury community towards the player is the most important thing in our game.\u202f<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gallery\">\n<div class=\"col\"><a title=\"Screenshot 2022 07 12 151921\" href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/fd7fc23f142b6\/screenshot-2022-07-12-151921.large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZpZXdCb3g9IjAgMCA0NTAgMjUzIj48L3N2Zz4=\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" data-original=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/fd7fc23f142b6\/screenshot-2022-07-12-151921.450x.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot 2022 07 12 151921\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"col\"><a title=\"Screenshot 2022 07 12 161550\" href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/6f88e983f61f7\/screenshot-2022-07-12-161550.large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZpZXdCb3g9IjAgMCA0NTAgMjUzIj48L3N2Zz4=\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" data-original=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/6f88e983f61f7\/screenshot-2022-07-12-161550.450x.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot 2022 07 12 161550\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>Can you tell us about some of the residents of Moonbury?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The residents of Moonbury are good people with their own character traits and life goals but since the island is quite isolated, they have a hard time opening up to anything new and unconventional such as the healing methods the player has to offer.\u202f<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"left\">\n<p>We finally found what we are passionate about and decided to continue this journey with Potion Permit<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What was the team doing before making Potion Permit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our team started our journey as a mobile game developer back in 2015.\u202fAs we tried to shape our identity as a developer, we ended up as a premium game developer with our very first premium title called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/azure_saga_pathfinder_deluxe_edition\">Azure Saga: Pathfinder<\/a>.\u202f<\/p>\n<p>We finally found what we are passionate about and decided to continue this journey with Potion Permit.\u202f<\/p>\n<p><strong>What inspirations have you drawn upon while creating the game?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/stardew_valley\">Stardew Valley<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/graveyard_keeper\">Graveyard Keeper<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/3ds\/fantasy_life\">Fantasy Life<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/moonlighter\">Moonlighter<\/a> are our biggest inspirations for this game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What kind of research did you do when you started making the game?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since we are all gamers ourselves, and thus play games a lot, we tend to share our opinions about certain games with each one of our team members and like to especially discuss what we have struggled with on some level.<\/p>\n<p>We then browse several forums for each of the games we have played and keep and eye out for people who share these feelings<strong>.<\/strong> This was the beginning of our research, but it got a lot more serious after that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What has been the hardest part of making Potion Permit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Creating goals, vibes, and mechanics which differ from other simulation games is the most difficult things we\u2019ve encountered so far.\u202f<\/p>\n<p>We wanted to differentiate our game from the other games that have inspired us the most, and we subsequently had to create a clear path for Potion Permit. However, since we were planning to stick with the casual and cozy feel of the game, we decided to remove those features.\u202f<\/p>\n<p>We couldn\u2019t imagine a town with no one left if they were treated by a bad chemist. This approach would\u2019ve only worked if the people populating the town were randomly generated.\u202f<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which part of the game took you the most time and\/or effort \u2013 design, art, writing, or something else entirely?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The design and writing processes were by far the hardest thing we\u2019ve had to work on.<\/p>\n<p>We kept going back and forth to improve the game experience and to align them both as best as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there anything you&#8217;ve learned while making Potion Permit that has made you think, \u201cI\u2019m never doing this particular thing again\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finding right timing for the narrative element to enter the game is an important lesson we\u2019ve learned so far. We tried to bring narration into the game before the whole experience and game mechanics were set. However, creating a game with mechanics differing from other simulation games means a lot of experimenting without any guidance. We hope everyone will have as much fun with Potion Permit as we do, and we cannot thank everyone enough who\u2019s tried our game so far!\u202f<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"right\">\n<p>Embracing something new might be frightening but it is not always a bad thing<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Have you added or changed anything about the game following the massive response to it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve recently made some design changes based on the feedback we received. Noxe, for instance, the main protagonist\u2019s canine companion, will have improved behaviours, and will overall provide more help to the player.
