May’s NPD results have been shared, and the figures reveal that May has been a relatively quiet month for the video game industry.<\/p>\n

The industry overall has seen a 19% drop in sales (for hardware, games, and accessories) compared to a year ago, and at $3.7 billion, this is the lowest monthly spending total since February 2020. Year-to-date spending has also seen a 10% drop compared to the same period in 2021, with subscription gaming the only aspect that’s seen year-on-year growth.<\/p>\n

However, the Switch has done pretty well, topping the hardware charts for last month in the US in both numbers of units and dollars. It’s still the best-selling console of the year in the country in terms of units sold, too.<\/p>\n
