Did you know though there was also a version in development for Nintendo&#8217;s 32-bit handheld the Game Boy Advance?<\/p>\n<p>In 2002, <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RandalLinden\">Randy Linden<\/a> &#8211; a veteran programmer known for the &#8220;impossible&#8221; SNES port of DOOM and the creator of the BLEEM emulator &#8211; was working on a Quake prototype for GBA. The video game archivists at <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/forestillusion.com\/2022\/quake-usa-prototype\">Forest of Illusion<\/a> have now been supplied with a working ROM of Linden&#8217;s prototype:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This unreleased prototype we present to you today was recently discovered on a 256M Flash Card in Linden\u2019s storage, and is certainly a far cry from anything else developed for the handheld.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<aside class=\"object object-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p><span lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today we have preserved a cancelled Quake port for the GBA! It was originally being developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RandalLinden?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RandalLinden<\/a>. If that name rings a bell, Linden is a veteran game developer best known for the creation of the BLEEM emulator as well as the groundbreaking SNES port of Doom! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W87Lh6uGac\">pic.twitter.com\/W87Lh6uGac<\/a><\/span>\u2014 Forest of Illusion (@forestillusion) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/forestillusion\/status\/1534884292035112961?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 9, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth noting this version doesn&#8217;t use any assets from Quake, but there is a version (that&#8217;s not been found yet) using id Software&#8217;s assets.
