The Nintendo Switch and mobile free-to-play MOBA Pok\u00e9mon Unite<\/a><\/strong> has today received its major update for the month of May.<\/p>\n

Apart from the usual balance changes, this one adds in the new limited-time mode – “Catch ‘Em Battles”, which will run until 26th June. Here’s a summary of how this mode works, along with a video:<\/p>\n

In Catch \u2019Em battles, catchable wild Pok\u00e9mon will appear across the map at different times. Look for Electrode, Tauros, Ludicolo, Avalugg, Araquanid, and Drednaw, along with the Legendary Pok\u00e9mon Zapdos, Articuno, and Regigigas. When you defeat one of these wild Pok\u00e9mon, you\u2019ll catch it, and an icon representing that Pok\u00e9mon will replace your battle item icon. You\u2019ll have limited time to activate this icon, but when you do, you\u2019ll play as that wild Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

When you start playing as a wild Pok\u00e9mon, nearby opposing Pok\u00e9mon will immediately be shoved away, giving you a moment to adjust to your new Pok\u00e9mon. As a wild Pok\u00e9mon, you\u2019ll have access to its basic attack and two additional moves. However, you won\u2019t have a Unite Move, and you won\u2019t be able to teleport back to your base. You also won\u2019t be able to score goals, so you\u2019ll be supporting your teammates as they score. If you\u2019re knocked out while playing as a wild Pok\u00e9mon, you\u2019ll revert back to your original Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

If you\u2019re playing as Zapdos, Articuno, or Regigigas, you can use Zap Cannon, Ice Beam, or Hyper Beam (respectively) to weaken your opponents\u2019 goal zones.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Catch \u2019Em battles take place in a slightly modified version of Mer Stadium. The basic rules are the same as a 4-on-4 quick battle, but the shield and HP recovery effects of your team\u2019s forward goal zones will be increased. Also, after one of your forward goal zones is destroyed, a superjump springboard will appear at your team\u2019s base. You can also earn extra points by helping your teammates defeat wild Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
