These affiliate partnerships do not influence our editorial content. <\/em> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>With iOS 15.5 officially released, we walk you through all of the changes found in this new update for <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/iphone\">iPhone<\/a> including improvements to Wallet, Home, and Podcasts.\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>After the typical rolling waves of betas, Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/22\/05\/16\/apple-releases-ios-155-ipados-155-watchos-86-tvos-155-with-bug-fixes\">has released<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/ios\">iOS<\/a> 15.5 to the masses. Often referred to as &#8220;point&#8221; updates, they can contain minor new features and help solidify the user experience.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Significant changes will come this summer with the announcement of iOS 16, but until then, here is what Apple has refined.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 embed\">\n<div class=\"align-center\">\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=17n2Nl6d6AY]<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 data-anchor=\"new-changes-in-ios-155\" id=\"new-changes-in-ios-155\">New changes in iOS 15.5<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Despite the near announcement of iOS 16, Apple still isn&#8217;t done with iOS 15. Some notable changes include the expansion of Communication Safety in Messages to the UK, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia plus the patching of dozens of security vulnerabilities.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Some apps seem to have gotten more love than others. Home, Wallet, and Podcasts got the largest number of enhancements.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 data-anchor=\"home-app\" id=\"home-app\">Home app<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/homekit\">HomeKit<\/a> users, Apple tweaked a couple of things in the Home app. Now, the Home app will prompt users for critical alert permissions.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/everything-new-in-ios-15-5-for-iphone.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/everything-new-in-ios-15-5-for-iphone.jpg\" alt=\"HomePod Wi-Fi signal\" height=\"726\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"img-responsive article-image\"><\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"carousel-caption\">HomePod Wi-Fi signal<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Critical alerts are notifications that will sound, even when your phone is in do not disturb mode or on vibrate. They&#8217;ll be used for urgent events, such as a smoke detector getting triggered. Without critical alerts, you may miss these notifications.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>HomePods will now also show their signal strength in the Home app. When you go into a <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/homepod\">HomePod<\/a>&#8216;s settings, tapping the Wi-Fi network will show how strong the Wi-Fi signal is.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 data-anchor=\"wallet\" id=\"wallet\">Wallet<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Apple has now updated all references to the physical <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/apple-card\">Apple Card<\/a> within the Wallet app to be the titanium Apple Card. The iTunes Pass appears to have been updated as well, now being referred to the Apple Account Balance.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/everything-new-in-ios-15-5-for-iphone-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/everything-new-in-ios-15-5-for-iphone-1.jpg\" alt=\"Send and receive Apple Cash\" height=\"731\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"img-responsive article-image\"><\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"carousel-caption\">Send and receive Apple Cash<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Users can request or send money directly from the Apple Cash Card in Wallet, rather than first navigating to Messages. In Messages though, Apple has renamed the Apple Pay Messages app to the Apple Cash Messages app.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Finally, Vaccinations records in the EU Digital COVID certificate format can now be added.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 data-anchor=\"podcasts\" id=\"podcasts\">Podcasts<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Ahead of the iOS 15.5 release, Apple announced new improvements for podcast producers. It would streamline the distribution method so that producers could share their paid and free podcasts on multiple platforms without having to upload to multiple locations.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>This will be coming later this year for producers, but the iOS 15.5 update brought a user-facing feature. Now you can control how many recent episodes download to prevent too much space from being taken up.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/everything-new-in-ios-15-5-for-iphone-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/everything-new-in-ios-15-5-for-iphone-2.jpg\" alt=\"Podcast settings in iOS 15.5\" height=\"728\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"img-responsive article-image\"><\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"carousel-caption\">Podcast settings in iOS 15.5<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>In Settings, you can choose exactly how many episodes download and the Podcasts app will auto-delete older episodes.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 data-anchor=\"other-small-changes\" id=\"other-small-changes\">Other small changes<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>With iOS 15.5, iPhone supports new DualSense adaptive trigger firmware features. Photos will no longer suggest memories taken in sensitive locations, such as Holocaust-related locations.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>After being removed in iOS 15.4, a third-party API to control music playback speed has been added back. We&#8217;ve also heard rumors of a dedicated app for classical music, though it wasn&#8217;t included in 15.5.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Reader apps now have the option to link to external websites. Finally, Universal Control now requires both your <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/ipad\">iPad<\/a> to be on <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/ipados\">iPadOS<\/a> 15.5 and <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/mac\">Mac<\/a> to be on <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/macos\">macOS<\/a> 12.4.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 data-anchor=\"get-downloading\" id=\"get-downloading\">Get downloading<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>The iOS 15.5 update is available now as a free download.
