And here at Nintendo Life, with the release of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/kirby_and_the_forgotten_land\">Kirby and the Forgotten Land<\/a> fast approaching, we\u2019ve decided that it\u2019s time someone picked the 20 best and made a list of them, darn it. After all, it\u2019s the least we could do after three long decades of HAL\u2019s versatile hero.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t see your favourite here? Well, variety is the spice of life, after all \u2013 sound off in the comments! Unless your favourite is Cutter or something similarly boring, in which case please don\u2019t bother (<em>jokes!<\/em>). Anyway, enough chirping \u2013 let\u2019s get down to business. As Kirby always says: <em>\u201cPoyo! Hiiiii!! Rnnnngh!!!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">20. Mini<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/5fcf937228f91\/mini.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/5fcf937228f91\/mini.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Mini\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/gba\/kirby_and_the_amazing_mirror\">Kirby &amp; the Amazing Mirror<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Borderline useless? Check. Situational to the point of it being the most basic lock &gt; key scenario imaginable? Check. In the running for the worst copy ability in the entire series in terms of its sheer lack of versatility? Check.<\/p>\n<p>But we offer this hopefully compelling counterargument: KIRBY\u2019S GONE ALL SMALL!!!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">19. Needle<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/f6acd65d1ff56\/needle.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/f6acd65d1ff56\/needle.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Needle\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nes\/kirbys_adventure\">Kirby\u2019s Adventure<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Honestly? This is a pretty unremarkable ability, but we nominated it anyway because of the way that the needles PIERCE THROUGH KIRBY in its inaugural appearance. Sure, later it became about wearing a spiky hat (boring!) but that original NES Kirby was <em>hard to the core<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">18. Parasol<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2e029581bae02\/parasol.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2e029581bae02\/parasol.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Parasol\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> Kirby\u2019s Adventure<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s just something <em>nice<\/em> about Kirby taking one of his little strolls while carrying his gorgeous red parasol, isn\u2019t there? It helps that you can use to it switch enemies off, bam, pow&#8230; sorry, sun was in my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also cute the way Kirby floats slowly earthward, brolly held aloft.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">17. Sleep<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/064fd11a7c510\/sleep.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/064fd11a7c510\/sleep.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Sleep\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> Kirby\u2019s Adventure<\/p>\n<p>Doesn\u2019t the Kirbmeister just look as cute as the dickens having a lovely little kip there right in the middle of the stage? He\u2019s such a precious little mite. You could use this one to regain health in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/ds\/kirby_squeak_squad\">Squeak Squad<\/a>, though we often fell asleep for real playing that.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">16. Hi-Jump<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/1de8f50d8763d\/hi-jump.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/1de8f50d8763d\/hi-jump.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Hi-Jump\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> Kirby\u2019s Adventure<\/p>\n<p>It may seem like an odd choice, but what Hi-Jump lacks in practicality \u2013 Kirby can <em>fly indefinitely<\/em>, for goodness\u2019 sake \u2013 it makes up for by being enormous fun to use. A quick tap of the button and Kirby launches off like a rocket, exploding anything in his path. Brilliant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">15. Cleaning<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/f2ef0a83cf374\/cleaning.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/f2ef0a83cf374\/cleaning.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Cleaning\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/kirbys_dream_land_3\">Kirby\u2019s Dream Land 3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Broom Hatter enemy was a staple of the Kirby series long before Dream Land 3, but it never gave up that broom until this game. Excellently, this sees Kirby begin sweeping, and we\u2019re not talking about some <strong>Cobra Kai<\/strong> stuff. Combining it with animal friend Coo, memorably, turns him into a feather duster.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">14. Ball<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/d082d299573fc\/ball.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/d082d299573fc\/ball.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Ball\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> Kirby\u2019s Adventure<\/p>\n<p>Just when you thought Kirby couldn\u2019t be any rounder or more adorable, finally we get a Kirby you can dunk. No, stop laughing at the back.<\/p>\n<p>Kirby here transforms into, well, a big pink ball, and ricochets off the walls like he\u2019s had too many Frosties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">13. Beam<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/8b43c1fe5167a\/beam.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/8b43c1fe5167a\/beam.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Beam\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> Kirby\u2019s Adventure<\/p>\n<p>Iconic for many reasons, most prominently the fact that for many players this was their first exposure to a Kirby ability of any kind, its owner (Waddle Doo) being present in the opening stage of Kirby\u2019s Adventure.<\/p>\n<p>Hmm, we say \u201cmany players\u201d, but we suppose it\u2019s just \u201cold people\u201d. <em>Sigh.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">12. Sword<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/831b920b5b1d5\/sword.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/831b920b5b1d5\/sword.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Sword\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> Kirby\u2019s Adventure<\/p>\n<p>The quintessential Kirby power, sword gives the pink puffball (<em>\u00a9 all games media ever<\/em>) a great big chopper. In an amusing bit of cross-franchisery, having full health lets the sword shoot a little beam projection of itself.<\/p>\n<p>And where have we seen that before? Yes, that\u2019s right \u2013 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/elden_ring\" class=\"external\">Elden Ring<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<h2 class=\"heading\">11. Artist<\/h2>\n<aside class=\"picture embed img-900x\">\n<div class=\"img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/43c1b3051c2c6\/artist.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/43c1b3051c2c6\/artist.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Artist\"><\/a><span class=\"image-credit\" title=\"Image Credit\">Nintendo \/ HAL Laboratory<\/span><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>First appearance:<\/strong> Kirby Star Allies<\/p>\n<p>This one turns Kirby into a sort of Damien Hirst figure, though perhaps marginally more impressive given that his creations come to life and <em>kill for him<\/em>.
