Parallels is sending invite emails, viewed by <em>AppleInsider<\/em>, with installation instructions.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>The Technical Preview has some strict limits in its current state. It only works on M1 Macs, and you can only install system images of ARM-based operating systems. Intel-based OS images are not supported. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>It isn&#8217;t clear if the ARM-based Windows install that Microsoft is providing to its testers works in Parallels 16 yet.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Furthermore, the preview is not yet compatible with existing disk images used in previous versions of Parallels. The beta also doesn&#8217;t support suspending and resuming virtual machines, and users will need to shut down the VM to close the app.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Parallels is among a group of virtualization software developers <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/20\/11\/11\/parallels-confirms-apple-m1-support-amid-silence-from-other-virtualization-companies\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scrambling to solve<\/a> Apple Silicon&#8217;s unique challenges. Competing developers behind <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/20\/11\/17\/docker-reveals-why-its-virtual-machine-isnt-yet-on-apple-silicon-m1\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Docker<\/a> and VMWare also plan on updating their applications for the M1 chips.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>After Apple had announced the first Apple Silicon Macs in November, Parallels said it was &#8220;excited to see the performance, power efficiency, and virtualization features&#8221; and had promised &#8220;tremendous progress&#8221; made since the annual conference.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>If you own an M1 Mac, you can request access to the Technical Preview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parallels.com\/blogs\/parallels-desktop-apple-silicon-mac\/\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Popular virtualization software Parallels now supports Apple Silicon in an invite-only Technical Preview \u2014 with notable caveats.
