{"id":122089,"date":"2020-12-15T18:25:30","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T18:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/20\/12\/15\/apple-iphone-production-reports-corroborate-supercycle-thesis-analyst-says"},"modified":"2020-12-15T18:25:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T18:25:30","slug":"apple-iphone-production-reports-corroborate-supercycle-thesis-analyst-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2020\/12\/15\/apple-iphone-production-reports-corroborate-supercycle-thesis-analyst-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple iPhone production reports corroborate &#8216;supercycle&#8217; thesis, analyst says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sickgaming.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/apple-iphone-production-reports-corroborate-supercycle-thesis-analyst-says.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Investment bank Wedbush says that recent reports of iPhone production bumps are only the latest indication that the <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/iphone-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iPhone 12<\/a> &#8220;reality is meeting the initial hype.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>In a note to investors seen by <em>AppleInsider<\/em>, lead analyst Daniel Ives cites a <em>Nikkei Asian Review<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/20\/12\/15\/apple-orders-30-more-iphones-for-first-half-of-2021\">report<\/a> from Tuesday that indicated that Apple plans to produce up to 96 million <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/iphone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iPhone<\/a> units in the first half of 2021.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>That bump in production would represent a 30% year-over-year increase in smartphone models produced, and is also well ahead of current Wall Street expectations, Ives wrote. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>The analyst said the recent reports echo Wedbush supply chain checks that <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/20\/12\/09\/strongest-product-cycle-in-years-leads-wedbush-to-hike-aapl-target-to-160\">suggested<\/a> Apple could ship 230 million iPhone units in 2021. Ives believes that the current trajectory hints at a potential bull case, which could see Apple sell upwards of 240 million units, smashing the previous record of 231 million units shipped in 2015.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>All of this is evidence that the proposed iPhone 12 &#8220;supercycle&#8221; is currently underway, Ives added. The investment bank is continuing to anticipate Apple shipping 80 million iPhone 12 and <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/iphone-12-pro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iPhone 12 Pro<\/a> units in the initial launch period, with a number in the high-80 millions as a stretch goal.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Wedbush initially believed that 350 million out of 950 million iPhone units are currently in an upgrade opportunity window. With China remaining a central component of the proposed &#8220;super cycle,&#8221; Ives said that the signs point toward an &#8220;unprecedented upgrade cycle for Apple with a major holiday season on the horizon.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>The analyst is maintaining his 12-month price target of $160, based on a sum-of-the-parts valuation on Wedbush&#8217;s 2022 AAPL fiscal year estimate.
