{"id":120065,"date":"2020-10-30T14:45:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-30T14:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/10\/retro_studios_is_expanding_its_hq_in_2021_to_aid_development_of_metroid_prime_4"},"modified":"2020-10-30T14:45:00","modified_gmt":"2020-10-30T14:45:00","slug":"retro-studios-is-expanding-its-hq-in-2021-to-aid-development-of-metroid-prime-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2020\/10\/30\/retro-studios-is-expanding-its-hq-in-2021-to-aid-development-of-metroid-prime-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Retro Studios Is Expanding Its HQ In 2021 To Aid Development Of Metroid Prime 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"media_block\"><a href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/4a0b0b20a731b\/large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/4a0b0b20a731b\/small.jpg\" class=\"media_thumbnail\"><\/a><\/div>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Metroid Prime\" href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/4a0b0b20a731b\/metroid-prime.original.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/4a0b0b20a731b\/metroid-prime.900x.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"390\" alt=\"Metroid Prime\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>The Nintendo-owned Retro Studios is expanding its HQ next year, <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/nintendos-retro-studios-will-reportedly-invest-in-a-new-500k-hq-to-aid-its-metroid-expansion\/\">VGC<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Famous for its work on the <strong>Metroid Prime<\/strong> and <strong>Donkey Kong Country<\/strong> franchises, Retro is currently involved in the production of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/metroid_prime_4\">Metroid Prime 4<\/a><\/strong>, a game it inherited when Nintendo decided to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/metroid_prime_4_development_scrapped_will_be_restarted_alongside_retro_studios\">restart production in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new building comes with a price tag of $530,000 and will comprise of a custom 40,000 square foot office, with Retro moving in by Summer 2021, according to a report published by US sales intelligence firm <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.intelligence360.io\/\">Intelligence360<\/a>. Those of you with long memories will recall that Retro moved into its current premises <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2012\/10\/retro_studios_gets_a_bigger_office\">almost a decade ago<\/a>; it is understood that these premises will be retained despite the investment in the new office space.<\/p>\n<p>Retro has been engaged in an aggressive recruitment drive for Metroid Prime 4, having most recently snapped up Rockstar veteran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/10\/retros_hiring_spree_continues_as_it_recruits_veteran_gta_producer\">Marisa Palumbo<\/a> as lead producer. Last month, <strong><a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps4\/god_of_war\">God of War<\/a><\/strong> senior game designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/09\/god_of_war_dev_joins_retro_studios_as_environment_designer_for_metroid_prime_4\">Jon Marcella<\/a> and <strong>Call of Duty<\/strong> director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/09\/retro_studios_hires_industry_veteran_to_help_steer_metroid_prime_4_development\">Dylan Jobe<\/a> joined the team.<\/p>\n<p>These new staffers join the likes of <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/bharathwajnandakumar\/\">Bharathwaj \u2018Bat\u2019 Nandakumar<\/a> (Call of Duty) <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/adadmorales\">Adad Morales<\/a> (<strong>Battlefield Hardline<\/strong>), <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/bryanerck\">Bryan Erck<\/a> (<strong>Shadow of the Tomb Raider<\/strong>), <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.artstation.com\/artwork\/Bm50W8\">Nicholas Wilson<\/a> (<strong>Borderlands 3<\/strong>), Mark Capers (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/new_super_luckys_tale\">New Super Lucky&#8217;s Tale<\/a>),<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/02\/metroid_prime_4_dev_retro_studios_hires_super_luckys_tale_and_crysis_3_designers\">James Beech<\/a> (<strong>Crysis 3<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/dc_universe_online\">DC Universe Online<\/a><\/strong>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/01\/donkey_kong_tropical_freezes_lead_designer_has_reportedly_returned_to_retro_studios\">Stephen Dupree<\/a> (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/donkey_kong_country_tropical_freeze\">Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze<\/a>)<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/10\/metroid_prime_4_dev_retro_studios_hires_halo_character_modeller_as_new_lead_artist\">Kyle Hefley<\/a> (<strong>Halo<\/strong>). That&#8217;s <em>quite<\/em> a line-up.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this massive influx of new talent, it was revealed last year that around half of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/wii\/metroid_prime_3_corruption\">Metroid Prime 3&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> development staff remain at Retro \u2013 although less than 10 of the 40-plus team which created the original <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/gamecube\/metroid_prime\">Metroid Prime<\/a><\/strong> are still there.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editor&#8217;s note: This story has been updated to reflect the fact that Retro is expanding its offices, rather than moving to new premises.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nintendo-owned Retro Studios is expanding its HQ next year, VGC reports.
