Thanks to one thing and another this year, it&#8217;s probably been quite a while, although it&#8217;s hard to believe that <em>three years<\/em> have now passed since we first grabbed our caps and went on a kingdom-hopping jaunt in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_mario_odyssey\">Super Mario Odyssey<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is, however, entirely true: Nintendo UK even tweeted about it to remind us:<\/p>\n<aside class=\"object object-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p><span lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It&#8217;s been three years since Mario set off on his globe-trotting adventure in Super Mario Odyssey! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xkzF1Rw48v\">pic.twitter.com\/xkzF1Rw48v<\/a><\/span>\u2014 Super Mario UK (@SuperMario_UK) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SuperMario_UK\/status\/1321062370559594497?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 27, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p>If that hypnotically looping gif above featuring the principal characters boogie-ing looks familiar, that&#8217;s because it&#8217;s adapted from a video put out to celebrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/10\/nintendo_celebrates_the_first_anniversary_of_super_mario_odyssey\">the game&#8217;s first anniversary<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back on the game, it&#8217;s perhaps a little odd that it never got any meaty DLC. Yes, it was periodically updated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/11\/super_mario_odyssey_adds_two_new_outfits_to_celebrate_the_holiday_season\">free costumes<\/a>, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/05\/rumour_super_mario_odyssey_is_getting_some_snazzy_new_snapshot_filters\">new snapshot filters<\/a>, and it got that nugget of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/hands_on_super_mario_odyssey_vr_-_a_non-essential_but_pleasant_return_trip\"><strong>Labo VR<\/strong> content<\/a> (not to mention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2018\/02\/luigirs_balloon_world_is_now_available_in_super_mario_odyssey\">Luigi&#8217;s Balloon World<\/a>), but of all the games that <em>do<\/em> get paid DLC, a new locale or two to explore is something we would definitely have coughed up for. So many memories!<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gallery\">\n<div class=\"col\"><a title=\"DNqIin5UMAAdZIK\" href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/e5b0eb5ff8277\/dnqiin5umaadzik.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/e5b0eb5ff8277\/dnqiin5umaadzik.original.jpg\" alt=\"DNqIin5UMAAdZIK\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"col\"><a title=\"DQO3T6iUMAUqtAX\" href=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2b3fda6d5cfa8\/dqo3t6iumauqtax.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"https:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2b3fda6d5cfa8\/dqo3t6iumauqtax.original.jpg\" alt=\"DQO3T6iUMAUqtAX\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Perhaps there&#8217;s something in that, though. Could Nintendo be channelling all those ideas into a straight sequel, <em>a-la<\/em> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/wii\/super_mario_galaxy_2\">Super Mario Galaxy 2<\/a><\/strong>? After all, everyone could do with getting away from it all again \u2014 now more than ever, no?<\/p>\n<p>We can but dream (and cross our fingers, legs and other limbs until we look quite silly). While we wait for Mario&#8217;s next adventure \u2014 one that we didn&#8217;t already enjoy on Wii U, that is \u2014 let&#8217;s raise a glass to his last truly epic journey.<\/p>\n<p><em>Apologies for mentioning Galaxy 2 (we know <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/09\/feature_so_what_happened_to_super_mario_galaxy_2\">it still smarts<\/a>).
