Up until its official reveal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2016\/08\/rumour_detachable_nx_controllers_will_offer_wii-like_motion_control_and_advanced_force_feedback\">it had been heavily rumoured<\/a> that Nintendo&#8217;s NX console \u2013 as it was codenamed back then \u2013 would feature detachable controllers and would boast an advanced form of rumble feedback. What a load of rubbish, huh?<\/p>\n<p>We vividly remember pre-orders for the console <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/01\/amazon_uk_confirms_time_for_nintendo_switch_pre-orders\">going live just a few months after in January 2017<\/a>, ahead of the console&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/03\/live_blog_its_nintendo_switch_launch_day_-_share_your_switchmas\">proper launch in March<\/a>. Launch day games included the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/1-2-switch\">1-2-Switch<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/just_dance_2017\">Just Dance 2017<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild\">The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild<\/a> which \u2013 as you&#8217;ll know \u2013 went on to be regarded as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/03\/the_legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild_is_officially_one_of_the_best_games_of_all_time\">one of the greatest games of all time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gallery\">\n<div class=\"col\"><a title=\"On the left, our first ever look at the Nintendo Switch dock. On the right, a demonstration of Switch&#8217;s tabletop mode courtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/04\/random_switch_actress_karen_embraces_her_nintendo_meme\">Nintendo Karen<\/a><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>It&#8217;s actually quite strange to think back to a time when the Switch wasn&#8217;t around \u2013 with Nintendo&#8217;s portable and home console efforts being smushed into this one device over the past few years, and especially with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/08\/nintendo_switch_sales_surpass_61_million_equalling_the_mighty_nes\">how successful the console&#8217;s been<\/a>, it almost feels like the Switch is the <em>ultimate<\/em> Nintendo machine, perfectly encompassing the best bits of consoles gone by.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re sure that&#8217;ll change when Nintendo decides to drop a new system later down the line, but what a journey we&#8217;ve had so far, eh?
