Instead, Oculus consulting CTO John Carmack <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ID_AA_Carmack\/status\/1316827354010914818\">noted the end of support in tweet<\/a> spotted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadtovr.com\/oculus-quest-2-go-apps-support\/\">Road to VR <\/a>team today. In that tweet, Carmack said that he \u201ctotally lost the internal debate over backwards compatibility\u201d and that the Quest 2 doesn\u2019t offer Go emulation because of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Oculus-parent Facebook announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/347327\/Oculus_Go_emulation_coming_to_the_Quest_later_this_year.php\">plans to bring Oculus Go emulation <\/a>to the original Quest headset last year, and started to wind down support for the standalone Oculus Go headset <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/365341\/Oculus_is_winding_down_Oculus_Go_support_to_instead_double_down_on_Quest_and_Rift.php\">just a few months back<\/a>. With all that in tandem, Go game developers might have had some peace of mind that their apps could live on through emulation on still-supported headsets, but it looks like that won\u2019t be the case. <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Given that the Quest 2 is Oculus\u2019 official, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/370285\/Facebook_to_discontinue_Oculus_Rift_S_will_no_longer_develop_PConly_VR_hardware.php\">and really only<\/a>, entry point for new VR users, this means that any new adopters won\u2019t be able to purchase or download apps for a system that Oculus just last year called \u201ca game-changer\u201d that \u201copened up VR to many more people\u201d and \u201chelped redefine immersive entertainment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook quietly dropped support for Oculus Go games and apps from the Oculus Quest 2\u2019s feature set, essentially cutting an entire library of games made for the mid-tier Go headset off from any new VR adopters moving forward.
