The Nintendo 64 is a console which tends to divide gamers. Launching back in 1996 (or 1997 in PAL regions) as the gaming industry’s bread-and-butter switched from sprites to polygons, the console represents \u2014 from a certain perspective \u2014 the first time Nintendo really dropped the ball. Tired of the platform holder’s licencing terms, many developers jumped ship to Sony’s PlayStation, attracted by fairer deals and cheaper disc-based media. In the meantime, Nintendo doubled down on an esoteric piece of hardware with confusing, kiddy-coloured controllers that were arguably out of step with gaming’s maturing audience.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, for many gamers the N64 evokes some of our very warmest, strongest gaming memories. It was while brandishing this console’s three-pronged pad that many of us took our first steps into a three-dimensional Mushroom Kingdom or Hyrule, and the unrivalled excitement of 4-player split-screen Mario Kart<\/a><\/strong> or GoldenEye<\/a><\/strong> sticks in our mind like few other multiplayer experiences.<\/p>\n

Yep, love it or loathe it (how could you?!<\/em>), the erstwhile Ultra 64 hosted some unassailable gaming classics, and with your help we’d like to rank the top 50 of them.<\/p>\n

Last year we put together rankings of the top 50 3DS games<\/a>, Game Boy games<\/a>, Nintendo DS games<\/a> and GameCube games<\/a> \u2014 each one based on the User Ratings from the Nintendo Life Games database<\/a> \u2014 and now we’d like to find out the top 50 Nintendo 64 games according to you lovely people. You can rate any game you like using the specially designed tool below. Simply scroll through the alphabetical list and click the star to bring up a rating of 1-10. Click to score your favourites and you’re all done!<\/p>\n

We’ve updated our database to include the vast majority Nintendo 64 titles, although let us know in the comments if there’s something missing that you’d like to rate and we’ll see about adding it. Remember you can avoid a whole bunch of scrolling and clicking by just punching the game you’re looking for into the search box \u2014 type first few letters and rate it directly from the results that pop up.<\/p>\n
