{"id":118062,"date":"2020-09-16T13:29:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T13:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/370261"},"modified":"2020-09-16T13:29:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-16T13:29:00","slug":"embracer-group-enters-vr-market-with-purchase-of-arizona-sunshine-dev-vertigo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2020\/09\/16\/embracer-group-enters-vr-market-with-purchase-of-arizona-sunshine-dev-vertigo\/","title":{"rendered":"Embracer Group enters VR market with purchase of Arizona Sunshine dev Vertigo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Embracer Group has entered the virtual reality market with the <a href=\"https:\/\/embracer.com\/release\/embracer-group-acquires-vertigo-games\/\">purchase of <em>Arizona Sunshine<\/em> developer&nbsp;Vertigo Games<\/a> for an initial \u20ac50 million ($59.2&nbsp;million).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The deal will see Embracer purchase the Dutch VR studio through its Koch Media subsidiary for \u20ac40 million ($47.4 million) in cash and \u20ac10 million ($11.8 million) in newly issued B shares, although it could pay out an additional \u20ac25 million ($29.6 million)&nbsp;in cash if certain financial and production targets are met over the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>Vertigo has developed and published a number of VR titles including <em>Arizona Sunshine<\/em>, <em>A Fisherman&#8217;s Tale<\/em>, <em>Skyworld<\/em>, and <em>After The Fall<\/em>. The company also runs an arcade business that sees it distribute proprietary and third-party VR titles to arcade operators&nbsp;around the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Following the deal, Vertigo will continue to operate independently under the Koch Media umbrella, and will work across the overall Embracer Group to &#8220;find wider collaboration within VR.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have been monitoring the VR market over the past years very closely. We feel that now is the right time to extend our groups activities into this fast-growing market,&#8221; commented Koch Media chief exec Dr. Klemens Kundratitz.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am sure that we are only at the beginning of the technological development of VR and what it offers players around the globe.
