At the time, traders thought they had found a clue to guess at the speed of fuel demand recovery from the <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/inside\/coronavirus\">coronavirus<\/a> pandemic.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>But the data didn&#8217;t translate into activity in gasoline demand, <em>Reuters<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil-apple-data\/traders-thought-apple-had-the-holy-grail-of-oil-data-but-the-quest-continues-idUSKBN2430JK\">reported<\/a>. That&#8217;s because the data was based on search information and not miles traveled.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>At the time of release, and even as Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/20\/05\/05\/apples-mobility-trends-reports-adds-additional-regions-all-50-us-states-covered\">added new regions<\/a> to the tool, the Cupertino tech giant stressed the data privacy of the feature.
